It’s Wednesday which means there’s some good midweek racing to get us over the hump. There’s meetings at Newcastle, Sandown and Doomben where we can hopefully find a few winners.
Billy Bestford has had a look across the three meetings and has found his best bets for the day.
Horse Racing Tips: Wednesday, August 11th
Newcastle Race 2
(1) Mother’s Mercy looks the class horse in this field, dropping well back in grade for this race today. She’s been competitive in far stronger races than she faces here and is yet to put in a bad run this prep. The 3kg claim for Reece Jones offsets the big weight and he’s the best apprentice rider going around at the moment. Should get every favour from barrier 5 and was a winner at her only other start at the track.
Newcastle Race 4
(2) Toomuchtobear is still a lightly raced 4yo for Waller and broke through with a good win over 1400m down in Victoria last start. He beat Mr Brightside that day who I suspect is pretty handy and has since won his next two starts with ease. Out to 1500m for the first time looks ideal and the little freshen up between runs won’t do him any harm. Expecting he will be too good for this lot.
Newcastle Race 5
Think (3) Hyannis Port can run a good race at an each way price. This looks an easier race than she tackled first up, when 3L off Starla and Turnstyle at Rosehill. Always goes better with a run under the belt and the dry track will be a big plus for her. She looked a chance in the straight but peaked late first up so I think that run will do her plenty of good. Reece Jones should be able to roll forward from the wide draw and hopefully can make the most of the light weight.

Sandown Race 4
Keen to see the smart (4) Flash Flood resume from injury today following a handy debut prep. He won two races beating some good horses in the process and has since jumped out strongly in the lead up to this. The big weight is offset by a 3kg claim for in-form Josh Richards and he should be able to roll forward and map for a nice run off the speed or even leading. Probably best to watch the market in the lead up to the race and I think that will tell you if he’s ready to go or not.
Sandown Race 8
(10) Ziavera looks ready to win one following two 2nds this prep over this trip. She’s just happened to bump into a couple of handy ones there but Craig Williams sticks for the ride today and she has been a winner 3rd up in the past. The dryer track will definitely be appreciated and she deserves a win.
