AFL Carlton vs Geelong Betting Tips
MCG, Saturday 10th July, 4.35pm (AEST)
The Blues have their season on the line here as they sit just outside the battle for the final few spots in the eight. A win here would see themselves inserted back into the top eight conversation, while a loss would see their finals hopes likely dashed.
Match Preview
After a disappointing loss to Brisbane the week before, Geelong looked back to their damaging best against the Bombers down at GMHBA Stadium on the weekend. The game was relatively close in the first half before the Cats kicked away after half-time, recording a 41-point victory to take their winning streak in Geelong to eight games.
The big news out of the game, however, was the injury to star forward Jeremy Cameron. Cameron started the game like a house on fire, kicking three goals in the first half to bring the Cats back into the game after a slow start. Late in the second quarter, the key forward tweaked his hamstring and will now miss 4-6 weeks. He joins Mitch Duncan on the side-lines for the Cats, but they could get Mark O’Connor and Jordan Clark back from injury for the Saturday clash against the Blues.
Carlton have bounced back from a loss to GWS in Round 14 by winning their last two games against the Crows and Dockers. They have kept their finals hopes alive with the two wins but they will need to keep winning to stay relevant in the tight battle for eighth place. Fortunately, they have a pretty cruisey run home, with games against Collingwood, North Melbourne, St Kilda, Gold Coast and GWS in the run home.
Unfortunately for the Blues, their injury list is probably the longest in the league at the moment. The best 22 players they will be without this weekend are Charlie Curnow, Sam Docherty, Michael Gibbons, Caleb Marchbank, Mitch McGovern, Marc Murphy and Marc Pittonet. To add to that, Will Setterfield, Zac Fisher and Patrick Cripps will all need to pass fitness tests to play.
With so many first-choice players out for the Blues, I just cant see them being competitive here against one of the top teams in the competition. The Cats have plenty of experience at the MCG, so will certainly prefer it to playing at Marvel. They have won 10 of their last 12 games against the Blues and actually have a lot to play for now as they fight for a spot in the top four with Brisbane and Port Adelaide. Back them to win this one comfortably at the G.

Cam Guthrie had his lowest possession count of the year in the win over the Bombers last week, racking up just 16 touches. He’ll be keen to bounce back this week and get back to his accumulating best. Has passed the 25-disposal mark in 9 of 13 games this season. Similarly, Sam Walsh has passed 25 touches in 12 of his 15 games this season. We are going back to one of our favourites for the last leg, backing Tom Stewart to have 20+ touches. Was back taking the majority of the kickouts against the Bombers last week, racking up 25 touches. Has only missed once in 15 games this year.
