2/3 week in NFL best bets last week for yet another winning week. It was a tough betting week throughout the rest of the slate and we’ll look to improve on those tips this week as we take a look at some of the key matchups in Week 9 of the NFL and give our tips for every game.
NFL Week 9 Betting Tips
Pittsburgh Steelers at Dallas Cowboys
Monday 8.25am (AEDT)
The Steelers have been on an absolute roll to start the NFL season. They are the last remaining undefeated team in the league at 7-0 and have a dominant 6-1 record against the spread. They travelled to Baltimore on Sunday and captured a fantastic four point win as underdogs to keep their undefeated streak alive. They have firmed into 2nd favourites to win the Super Bowl, behind only the Chiefs.
On the complete contrast, the Cowboys have had a shocker of a season so far. They are just 2-6 on the season and unbelievably, they are yet to cover the spread once. Another loss against the spread here would give them the all-time worst ATS record to start an NFL season at 0-9. They are without their starting quarterback Dak Prescott, who suffered a gruesome leg injury a few weeks ago, and they have since tested a few different back-ups.
The Steelers start as massive 14 point favourites here, which is one of the biggest lines we have seen so far this season. How can you like the Cowboys to cover when they haven’t done so all year though? It’s unknown who will even make the start at QB for the Cowboys, which isn’t a good sign. The Steelers are arguably the best team in the league at the moment and we expect them to cover here.
New Orleans Saints at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Monday 12.20pm (AEDT)
Massive matchup between two NFC South rivals here who are both vying for the division. The Buccaneers currently sit atop the division with a 6-2 record and are coming off a tight three point win over the Giants on Monday night. They’ll be on a short week but will no doubt be thankful to be back at home, where they are 3-0 on the season so far and 2-1 against the spread.
The Saints won their first game of the season against the Buccs back in Week 1, claiming an 11 point victory at home. They went on to lose their next two games but bounced back to win their next four, the most recent of which was a tight three point win over the Bears.
What a tough game to call. The Buccs start as slight favourites but they didn’t do a lot to impress on Monday night in New York. The Saints have won their last three games as a minimum of 5.5 point favourites but have failed to cover in all of those games. This will be the first time this season that they have started as underdogs, and we think they cover here.
New England Patriots at New York Jets
Tuesday 12.15am (AEDT)
The Patriots stranglehold over the AFC East division seems to finally be over. They have won the division 17 of the last 19 years with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick at the helm, but with the departure of the star quarterback in the off-season, the team has fallen off a cliff. They are currently 2-5 and sit in third place in the division, the only team trailing them is their Week 9 opponents, the New York Jets.
The Jets are the only winless team left in the NFL, currently sitting at 0-8 and just 1-7 against the spread. They were pulverised by the Chiefs in Week 8, failing to cover a massive 19.5 point line as they went down 35-9. They have scored under 20 points in all but one of their games and average the fewest points in the league at just 11.8.
Can’t see how this game goes over. If the Patriots are still above average in one aspect of the game, it’s their defence, which has allowed just 23.9 points per game. Both teams sit in the bottom four for points scored per game and we could easily see the Jets scoring in single digits here.
