Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, September 29th
Port Macquarie Race 3 (Market)
(2) Estroverto is still a maiden after 12 starts but this is clearly the easiest race he has contested, not only this prep, but in his career. He resumed at Wyong in early August and was well beaten over an unsuitably shorter trip. He then went to Newcastle, settled well back over 1300m before getting out and running into second. Last start, again at Newcastle and at today’s trip of 1500m, he was a heavily backed favourite in the last 15 minutes of betting before easing very late. Settling in an awkward position mid-field and on the rails, he was held-up slightly in the straight before getting out and hitting the line ok. He was well beaten by an impressive one on the day, I prefer him today drawn a bit wider where he can get to the outside earlier and run on. This is his last chance.
Port Macquarie Race 5 (Market)
Preludes for Country Cups are really just another race, when the actual Cup comes around it will no doubt be a completely different field. But alas, it is what it is, and there is a winner for us here in (1) Lady Evelyn. She is a last start Tuncurry Cup winner, after a soft run mid-field on the rails she was off the paint and tracking up nicely approaching the straight before finishing best for a dominant win. The horse that ran second that day has since come out and won a mid-week city race by three lengths, so the formlines look good through that. She obviously jumps in the weights off that win but retains the services of Gibbo and should be too good again.
Sunshine Coast Race 5 (Market)
(5) Love You Lucy has been very consistent through her 8-start career, only missing a place twice. She resumed in Class 1 at the Gold Coast a fortnight ago and although this is at Class Two level, looks no harder. She was mid-field in the run and saved ground before running on well back towards the inside to get up. That was over 900n, she does have some tactical speed but from the draw today she is likely to be mid-field again in the run stepping up in trip. She has a win second-up previously and was right out to the 1350m last prep so the win over 900m was encouraging fresh. The big track should suit her as well, she is having her first look at it today.
