It’s one of the biggest race days of the year today with the Caulfield Cup down in Melbourne as well as The Everest in Sydney. Aside from the two main events there are some cracking races throughout the day and there looks to be a heap of good bets to be had.
Billy Bestford has done the form throughout the day and has narrowed down his best bets of what looks a huge day of racing around the country.
Horse Racing Tips: Saturday, October 16th
Caulfield Race 3
Pretty keen on the chances of (3) Extreme Flight who looks a horse on the up. They’ve thrown the blinkers on and he’s bolted in her last two starts reeling off some very quick sectionals along the way. He beat the talented Linas Legend and Prix De Turn in the most recent win, with the latter of those horses since measuring up in the G1 Caulfield Guineas. Barrier 10 will give her plenty of room to wind up and I think she can make it three on the bounce.
Caulfield Race 4
(10) Kapalua Sunset looks one of the better bets of the day and having just her 3rd start today, she could be anything. She’s on an Oaks path and while she does come into this out of maiden grade, that was a dominant 7L win and she is going to only be better as she gets out in trip. Will eat up 2000m now and Prebble will have plenty of options in the run from a nice draw.
Caulfield Race 6
This is D-Day if I’ve ever seen for (8) Buffalo River. I swore I’d never back him again following last week but his setup today is even better. He finally gets a track with some give in it (his last nine starts have all been on good tracks). All career peaks have come on rain-affected going and I he maps well for this with little speed engaged. Zoutori is taking up way too much of the market in my opinion and has to be a big query at 1400 and wet. Buffalo should be able to control things here, or at least settl just off Morvada and he should be ready to pull out a peak run 3rd up. Last chance for him.
Randwick Race 7
The feature race on the card at Randwick sees the best sprinters in the land do battle for the world’s richest race on turf. (1) Nature Strip has been set for this a long way out and I honestly think he looks close to a certainty. Personally there looks to only be two horses here who can run up to the mark of what is needed to win this race and they are NS and Classique Legend. CL obviously has a few queries coming into this race first up off a bleed and I’m happy to take him on due to that. Nature Strip has had the ideal prep and I wouldn’t worry too much about the loss last start. 1200m is his go and he’s probably the best wet tracker in this race so the more rain the better for him. Keen.
Randwick Race 10
(1) Equation will get conditions to suit today and he looks primed to peak now this prep. He is well down in grade for this and gets a nice claim for Brock Ryan, out to 1400m looks ideal and all his wins have come on wet tracks. He’s had excuses in both runs this prep and he maps for run of the race just in behind the speed. Expecting with even luck he can send us out on a winning note at Randwick.
