Horse Racing Tips: Monday, September 7th
Wellington Race 1 (Market)
Very keen to back the Kody Nestor-trained (8) Miss Mayfield here. When this stable bring them to Wellington, they normally win. They’ve had seven winners from 15 starters here at Wellington in the past 12 months and this looks the better of their two chances on the day. The mare has had three trials, spaced out over about a year, with the most recent one being at Rosehill last month. The blinkers go on for the first time today, Anthony Cavallo is booked which is a strong lead, and I’d be surprised if she wasn’t right in the finish.
Wellington Race 7 (Market)
(5) Emilette looks incredibly hard to beat today and I doubt the $2.15 will hold up. She’s had three starts this prep; first up she ran 2nd at Muswellbrook, then won at that same track, before finishing 3rd in a Highway Handicap at Randwick last start. That was behind It’s Me and Pinnacle Prince, two very smart horses! I think that’s a very strong formline and dropping back to a country Class 3 today, she should be exceptionally hard to beat.
Wangaratta Race 1 (Market)
When the Freedman stable bring horses to Wangaratta, they do so for a reason. They’ve had seven runners for four winners here in the past 12 months. (14) Van Cleef lines up for them on debut here with Lachlan Neindorf in the saddle. She jumped out at Flemington recently against some good horses and went fairly. The draw is slightly tricky but I suspect she’ll be very hard to beat with even luck.
Wangaratta Race 3 (Market)
Patrick Payne and Billy Egan combine with (10) Suntan here, who is one of only two horses on debut in the field. I couldn’t find a jumpout for him but that’s not unusual for this stable. They’ve got a strong record at Wangaratta and I don’t think this is necessarily the strongest field, so if this horse has any sort of ability, I can see him running a big race at each way odds. The gate makes things a little bit tricky over the short 1000m course but we’re getting reasonable odds to see how good he is.
