Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Monday, November 11th.
The main part of the Spring racing carnival is over but there are still plenty of winners to be found and we get the chance to do so with meetings at Benalla and Lismore on Monday afternoon.
Luke Krahe has done the form for both meetings and highlighted his best bets of the day below!
Horse Racing Tips: Monday, November 11th
Benalla Race 1 (Market)
If you simply read the form with (9) Salome, you would struggle to find any reasons to back her, especially when she is likely to be favourite. She is a 6-start maiden that has only placed on one occasion. She was in the paddock for the best part of 6 months before returning to the trial track, she trialed very well at Cranbourne, winning after settling on the speed and wide. She went to Ballarat for her run resuming and was very heavily backed from $5.50 - $3.70 officially. To say she was plain would be an understatement, but the trial and the fact that she was backed off the map, we will give her another chance in a much easier race. There doesn’t seem to be anything out of the bag from those that we haven’t seen and those that have raced, hardly have made an impression.
Benalla Race 5 (Market)
(2) Taygeta was a winner on debut in Sydney for the Bjorn Baker yard back in July of last year. He obviously had some issues, trialed twice in NSW and he was on the sidelines for 66 weeks, then was transferred to the Archie Alexander barn. He was an impressive trial winner at Cranbourne before resuming at Pakenham three weeks ago, he was a solid favourite just into black figures by the time they jumped. He sat up on the speed and looked very plain at first look, but it was favourable to be back in the pack that day rather than being up on the pace. He comes back in grade from a 70 to a Class 1, the winner of that race resuming at Pakenham has since won again since. (1) Battle Master will have fans but I expect him to be a drifter in the betting and our selection to start favourite, purely on the likely map of Battle Master giving Taygeta a start.
Lismore Race 4 (Market)
(1) Countess De Galvez is one for the thrill seekers as it will likely be odds-on, or for people like me that can often see more value in horses in this price range. She has been racing in much harder races than this earlier in the prep north of the border, was showing speed and placed at her first three. She hasn’t been able to settle as close at her last two and has looked a little disappointing. Importantly, she gets the blinkers back on and draws well, back in this grade she should be handy throughout and expect her to be well backed. When you consider that the second favourite is likely to be (2) Shirazzle, a mare that has not won out of maiden grade. Two back she was beaten against the girls at Class 1 level at Double figure odds then beaten almost 10 lengths in a Class one at the non-TAB's on Cup Day. How does she not start double figures?

Lismore Race 7 (Market)
A Class One over 1100m closes the programme at Lismore, this looks a nice race for (3) Sparkling Facet to resume in. She won her maiden before going to the paddock, she sat up on the speed at the Gold Coast and cruised to the front early in the straight for a comfortable win. Although she has not won fresh, she has placed at all three prior runs when resuming. She has been given two trials at her home track north of the border, won them both and from the good draw will be up on the sped for a very long way. If she lands on the bunny, load up again in the run. The interesting runner is the stablemate (2) Invincore, he was off the scene for well over a year before resuming at the Gold Coast. He was brave in defeat, it should be noted that there is no jockey listed at the time of writing and he is also nominated for Beaudesert on Thursday, I expect him to be withdrawn here. If he does start, watch the betting closely with these two Toby Edmonds runners.
