Welcome to our harness racing preview and betting tips for racing at Melton, Menangle and Northam on Saturday, June 1st.
Trent Orwin has picked out his best bets from each track below with four selections in total.
Harness Racing Tips: Saturday, June 1st
Melton Race 5 – 7:30pm AEST
The TAB bet as much as $17 earlier in the week about (8) Rishi who has been racing in terrific form for trainer-driver Lance Justice. An inside second-row draw over 1720m can be tricky and I am not sure what Justice will do at the start. (1) Tee Cee Bee Macray will get crossed by (3) Vinny Chase who looks the likely leader. Rishi has been placed at his past four without winning and should be right in the mix once again. (7) Reciprocity and (9) Vee Rock are obvious contenders in a really open M2-M4 contest.
Melton Race 8 – 9:01pm AEST
We have an odds-on favourite off the back row in the form of (9) Idealsomemagic. Five-straight wins and running good time in most of them reads well. He has trailed the leader in each victory and won’t have that opportunity here which brings him back to the field. (1) Beach Garden has been disappointing at times, with her best form capable of running well here. I am willing to forgive her last start failure and look at her run four starts ago from this barrier when third behind San Domino. Recent runs suggest she needs the pegs to be any chance and gets that, so I think she is worth a throw at the stumps at $21.
Menangle Race 1 – 5:49pm AEST
I liked the first Menangle run by (4) Brocks Territory on May 21 when racing in a C5+ and finishing second, beaten a half-head by Hes Okey Dokey in 1:51.8. The last half was run in 55.9 seconds and the final quarter in 27.2 seconds. Brocks Territory was able to make good ground in the final 400m. This is a more suitable barrier and Brocks Territory will settle much closer; he does have gate speed and could try to find the front. The class horses draw wide with (9) Loorim Creek and (11) Little Rascal in barriers nine and 11 respectively.
(4) Brocks Territory
$9.50
Northam Race 7 – 10:50pm AEST
A drop in class for (1) Regal Ambition who will attempt to lead throughout over the 1780m for trainer Debbie Padberg and driver Luke Edwards. He was sixth last time at Gloucester Park behind Charlie El. He can be hit and miss when leading; his last victory was a 12.9m-margin over the 2536m at Gloucester Park in an M0. Expect him to go close here. (5) Renascentrez will be trying to cross and she would run a huge race if she led. (8) Lil China Doll will be closing fast in the race and (10) Jailbreak could be an improver.
My Rated Price: $2.70
