Welcome to our harness racing preview and betting tips for racing at Albion Park, Menangle and Melton on Saturday, April 6th.
We've selected our five best bets throughout the evening and you can find out thoughts on each of them below.
Albion Park Harness Tips
Race 2 – 5:43pm AEST (6:43pm AEDT)
Jumping Jolt was phenomenal last start with a 15m victory in a C6-C7 race where the mile rate was 1:53.2. The final quarter was run in 27.6 seconds with Jumping Jolt kissing them goodbye at the 450m mark. He put them away in the blink of an eye and was strong through the line. I’m not sure where he will map from barrier five over the 1660m, but his recent form makes him the horse to beat. My Ultimate Fella and Gotta Good Reason look the main dangers from their good draws.
Race 5 – 7:13pm AEST (8:13pm AEDT)
Zaras Delight was a long way back last start in what was a walk-up start as the mobile was out of action for a few days. She finished well to run third, beaten 5.5m, after racing about 30m behind the leader with 800m left to run. Prior to that, the 6YO was a winner at Albion Park in 1:55.0 for the 2138m. She comes up with barrier one and Chris Geary takes the drive. The 1660m is her preferred distance but the fact she won over this distance two starts ago gives me confidence that she can run a big race on an each-way basis. Tom Me Gun will be hard to stop and Jossie James should run well again.
Menangle Harness Tips
Race 4 – 7:53pm
Major Occasion is in the zone right now with three wins from her past four starts. She was runner up in the Group 1 Ladyship Mile (1609m) when racing outside of the winner Our Dream About Me in a 1:50.1 mile rate. Last start, Major Occasion just got the better of Eye See Diamonds and the rematch occurs once again. It should be a great race again and Major Occasion will have strong claims as will Eye See Diamonds who will lead again. My Venice Beach, Come Cullect and Du Vella also have each-way claims in the race.
Melton Harness Tips
Race 3 – 7:03pm
This C0 Final looks to be a three-horse race that has two major chances with Mongiana beginning from barrier one and Dublin Street in barrier eight. Leader and leader’s back are where the two major players will settle in the race, just like their heat. Mongiana held a half-neck margin on the line and deserves to be favourite. Dublin Street gets another chance to try and run down the leader. At $4, I think the former Kiwi mare can be backed as she should get another really good look at the leader via the Melton sprint lane. I Am Marquez is the other winning chance.
Race 4 – 7:33pm
I very seldom have a close look at trotters outside of WA, but this race captures my attention after seeing Lucinda Mac gallop at the start and lose at least 25 metres, if not more. She finished powerfully to win by 4.7m on the line in a remarkable performance. She was a good winner three starts ago over Fear Not at Ballarat. The Great Redeemer has also beaten Fear Not and there isn’t a lot between The Great Redeemer and Lucinda Mac. For that reason, I am happy with the $6.50 on offer for Lucinda Mac. Chissy and Fatouche are the other chances in the race.
