Great night of harness racing this Saturday, the 13th of April from Albion Park and Menangle! Our main man Trent Orwin is back to give his best value tips for the night below!
Albion Park Harness Tips
Race 3 – 6:45pm
2YO Colts & Geldings battle it out in the Qbred Breeders Classic Final (1660m). Xaviers Hurrikane is the $1.50 favourite as he begins from barrier nine. Drawn inside him is Will The Wizard who boasts similar form to the favourite. The price differential looks too large, despite it being an awkward draw trailing Sir Jujon at the start. Will The Wizard has been runner up in both career starts, with the latest a small-margin defeat in 1:56.0.
Race 4 – 7:24pm
Frost En Ice looks hard to beat in the 2YO Fillies division of the Qbred Breeders Classic Final (1660m). A winner at two of four starts, the Vic Frost-trained filly has recorded a 1:56.3 victory when racing 1 out 1 back. She wasn’t suited racing in the death seat last time but the effort was still fair and that was against the boys. Expect her to control the race here and prove hardest to hold out with Kylie Rasmussen driving.
Race 5 – 7:54pm
The Group 2 Qbred Triad Final (2138m) for 3YO Colts & Geldings looks competitive. Hipstar looks over the odds at $18 following a last-start win in C0 company. He charged home out wide in the home straight. Prior to that, the gelding was second to Trojan Banner who hasn’t lost since arriving from New Zealand. Left A Terror and First String are the horses to beat in the race, but happy to be with Hipstar at the price.
Menangle Harness Tips
Race 1 – 5:53pm
Lord Zin Zan was runner up last week after leading and being run down by Bevans Cullen in 1:53.2. It was nothing more than a dash home in 53.9 seconds with the final quarter being run in 26.3 seconds. Lord Zin Zan will find the pegs and may opt to take a trail on Power Of Red. His past two runs suggest that he will go very close to winning this race as he seeks his first win since September 2017. He hasn’t raced much since then and could be starting to build towards some of his better form. Italian Delight is another key chance and Dark Energy is a top four chance.
Race 9 – 9:45pm
A standing-start race for the trotters to conclude the card and All Royal Gal for trainer-driver Kerryann Morris interests me at $26. The 8YO mare has raced in T2+ events recently for a fourth and third-placing. Both runs have been good and she should be able to run a good race on an each-way basis off the front line here. Maorisfavouritesun is the class trotter in the event off 20m.
