Welcome to our harness racing preview and betting tips for racing at Gloucester Park on Tuesday, May 14th.
We've picked out four selections from tonight's meeting below!
Gloucester Park Harness Tips
Race 1 – 7:20pm AEST
(1) Countess Grace should prove hard to beat in the opening event. She was beaten as a $1.18 favourite last start so happy to oppose on that basis. (4) Majorpride is the other class runner in the field having finished third in the Group 1 WA Oaks (2536m) last start. (3) Missplay may not be in the same class as the other two yet but her figures suggest she isn’t out of the race, so I am happy to back her at double figures. She has barrier three which should give her each-way claims in the race. (2) Hello Hotshot is the other chance in the race.
My Rated Price: $6.50
Race 4 – 8:50pm AEST
Expect early speed from (1) Arma Orourke, (2) Blissntheblack and (5) Franco Joaquin. The latter crossed from this barrier last start before surrendering the lead. If he leads over 1730m he won’t be surrendering with Lindsay Harper driving. Recent form reads well for Franco Joaquin and he will prove hard to beat if he can cross. If Arma Orourke leads, then he becomes the horse to beat. Happy with the price about Franco Joaquin because he isn’t completely out of it if he doesn’t lead, but it will be a lot tougher.
My Rated Price: $4.00
Race 6 – 9:45pm AEST
A tricky Level 8 race to assess over the 2130m which sees the WA debut of 5YO mare (9) Crystal Sparkles for trainer Ross Olivieri. She has won her last three starts in what appears to be very good time. I don’t know SA harness form but the times look very sharp, with a 1:55.7 mile rate at Port Pirie. Olivieri generally does a good job with interstate horses and this mare looks a strong chance despite the outside barrier draw. I am also interested in (2) No More Change. Kyle Harper takes the drive which is an upgrade from trainer Donald Harper and this horse has been going okay recently. He could surprise tonight. (5) Cut Above and (6) Purest Silk are obvious dangers.
My Rated Price (Crystal Sparkles): $3.30
My Rated Price (No More Change): $10
Value: (2) No More Change $26
(9) Crystal Sparkles
$4.80
Race 9 – 11:04pm AEST
The final race is for the 2YOs and a field of five line up. (4) Power And Grace comes up an odds-on favourite and I think that is well below the odds. There is very little between him and stablemate (1) Sweet Maddison who was finishing strongly behind Power And Grace at their racing debuts. Position in running determined the 10.1m margin and from the inside barrier, expect Sweet Maddison to be right in the hunt. I haven’t even discussed my top pick yet in the form of (5) Aristocratic Star who joins Justin Prentice after racing for Peter Anderson. A winner of two from four, Aristocratic Star has plenty of speed about him and he could prove too quick for them late. Happy to back both horses mentioned and oppose this favourite.
My Rated Price (Aristocratic Star): $2.50
My Rated Price (Sweet Maddison): $4.50
Value: (1) Sweet Maddison $6.00
(5) Arisocratic Star
$2.80
