Another fantastic night of harness racing coming from Gloucester Park tonight! The action gets underway at 7.21pm (AEST) and as always, Trent Orwin is back to preview his best value races on the card and give his tips below!
Gloucester Park Harness Tips
Race 1 (7:21pm AEST)
Jaspervellabeach was an impressive winner on debut for trainer Kristy Elson and driver Nathan Turvey. The mile rate of 1:56.8 is the quickest in the field to date and he ran home in 57.1 seconds. Valentines Brook was the leader on that occasion and with barrier draw advantage, Jaspervellabeach should notch up another victory over his rival. He should be able to find the lead with horses drawn inside inferior to the outside three here. Secret Operation is a stablemate to Jaspervellabeach and has each-way claims in the race. Follow The Dragon looks next best. Happy to take $1.75 or better for Jaspervellabeach.
Race 2 – (7:50pm AEST)
Keen to back two runners in this race if we can get the right prices. Murphys Bettor has drawn the best of the main four chances in the race – Kohli, Shadow Maker and Combat Crusade being the other three. If he finds the lead over 1730m then he will prove hard to beat. I’m not sure what Ark will do inside him which is my concern, but Murphys Bettor can still race well with a sit in the moving line. Combat Crusade has been consistent in midweek company and if there is a little bit of speed early, this horse should be able to run home gamely. Happy to back Murphys Bettor at $2 or better and Combat Crusade at $5.50 or better.
Race 5 – (9:20pm AEST)
3YO filly Countess Grace meets the older mares and her class will take her a long way in this race. She will either find the lead off Mystic Falls and from there should dominate the race by leading all-the-way. If she is unable to find the front, she will have to race outside of the leader or look for cover on the back of Jodies Pal or Salome Miss. I do expect class to rise to the top here and hopefully this race is a painless watch after 200m. I have marked Countess Grace $1.40.
Race 6 – (9:45pm AEST)
Purest Silk is the best horse in the race but she looks a bit short at $1.55 from the inside of the second row. She may get off the fence straight away but was beaten last time as $1.75 favourite. Two horses interest me based on how short the favourite is. Aly Shar is a 3YO filly for trainer John Oldroyd; the combination of Oldroyd and driver Chris Voak is a good one and they will be seeking a third career win with the filly at just her sixth start. She is capable of running quick sectionals and being ahead of Purest Silk in the run will help. She has some chance of finding the lead also. Joe With The Flow can show good gate speed when asked and he improves in that role. Happy to back him at nice odds too. Aly Shar at $2.70 or better and Joe With The Flow at $8.50 or better looks backable.
