It's another bumper night of Group 1 harness racing at Gloucester Park this Friday, June 28th!
There's two Group 1s on the card with the Westbred Classic for the 2YO Fillies (Race 5) and the Westbred Classic for 2YO Colts and Geldings (Race 6).
Harness racing expert Trent Orwin has previewed the meeting and offered his betting suggestions below.
Harness Racing Tips: Gloucester Park - Friday, June 28th
Best Bet: Race 7 - (4) Fake News
Race 1 – 6:50pm AEST
Friday night is Gloucester Park night and we have 11 races to enjoy. (12) Ideal Liner is the class runner and will be hard to beat in the opening race. (1) The War Nurse will lead and give him something to chase with (10) Hy Leexciting trailing. I am struggling to see value in the race so I am looking at the place market. (11) Cracka Star should be three back on the pegs and he is definitely a sneaky place hope from that position. The $8.00 to run a place looks value as I think he can place at least one-in-five times if this race were run that many times. He was second in a stand last week and returns to the mobile.
(11) Cracka Star to place
$8.00
Race 2 - 7.20pm AEST

Race 3 - 7.50pm AEST

Race 4 – 8:20pm AEST
WA’s best pacer (9) Chicago Bull could be a risk tonight as barrier nine will test him. The biggest danger to ‘Bully’ is stablemate (3) King Of Swing. A lot will depend on what (1) Golden State does at the start. If he takes the trail straight away then King Of Swing is the horse to beat and Golden State has strong place claims. If Golden State leads, he is a winning chance but could run the risk of missing a place altogether. There is as much as $3.30 for Golden State to place and happy enough to back him on a 1x3 basis in the race just in case he handles the class rise and reigns supreme. (10) Im Soxy is a strong top four contender.
My Rated Price: $9.00
Race 5 – GROUP 1 2YO FILLIES WESTBRED CLASSIC (2130m) – 8:55pm AEST
The first of two Group 1 races tonight is for the 2YO Westbred fillies and (2) Double Expresso comes up the $1.45 favourite. She was the benchmark filly at the start of the season, but other contenders have emerged amongst the ranks and one of them is (6) Intheskyrocket for Greg and Skye Bond. A winner at both career starts, Intheskyrocket was impressive last start when putting (3) Run For Mercy away with ease. Driver Ryan Warwick should send her forward at the start and may be able to get some cover on (7) Fifty Five Reborn or (8) Blockjorg. I am also interested in (11) Suing You who follows the favourite at the start and can run a slick last half. She got home in 55.3 last start at Pinjarra when narrowly beaten by the boys.
My Rated Prices: Intheskyrocket $6.00, Suing You $4.50
Also backing: (11) Suing You $7.00
Race 6 – GROUP 1 2YO COLTS AND GELDINGS WESTBRED CLASSIC (2130m) – 9:25pm AEST
The colts and geldings contest the second Group 1 and (1) Aristocratic Star looks extremely hard to beat from barrier one. He will likely lead and win unless there is too much pressure in the race, which doesn’t appear to be the case. (10) Caveman looks an obvious choice for second as he trails the favourite, although there is a risk that he won’t find clear running. (11) Secret Operation also has strong claims in the race but may have to settle for a minor placing from the back-row draw. (12) Keptain Courageous should get a soft run on the pegs and he is a blowout place chance at double figures. (9) Manning is next best, but the draw really hurts his chances.
My Rated Price: $1.35
(1) Aristocratic Star
$1.70
Race 7 – 9:55pm AEST
The Group 3 Lombardo Fillies & Mares (2130m) looks a great race for 3YO filly (4) Fake News for trainer Gary Hall Snr. Star reinsman Gary Hall Jnr drives and Fake News has class in this field. She rates on top with all my figures and comes off a fifth and fourth in two Group 1 events for 3YO fillies. It should be race over if she can find the front but that may rely on (3) My Prayer crossing and then surrendering the lead. Otherwise, she just needs some cover in the moving line and could be too quick for them late. My Prayer is also a big price and could be backed too if you are happy to support multiple runners.
My Rated Price: $2.20
Race 8 - 10.27pm AEST
No bet
Race 9 – 10:54pm AEST
I am going to throw one out from left field in the 2YO Fillies Westbred Classic Consolation (2130m) and that horse is the Donald Harper-trained (6) Miss Starfire. I have been impressed by her last two starts with the latest a 7.6m defeat when held up for clear running. She will need a lot of luck from barrier six, so I won’t deny that fact, but Kyle Harper drives and he is the perfect driver on board a roughie. The key chances in the race are (2) Altas Angel, (4) Star Fromthepalace, (5) Shirmaya and (11) Red Hot Lady.
My Rated Price: $21
Race 10 – 11:27pm AEST
Really keen on (10) Gardys Legacy who could prove a class above (1) Blue Stone and (2) Bee Jays Boy tonight. Bee Jays Boy looks the leader and over 1730m would be very dangerous. I think the 2130m favours Gardys Legacy and no other second row horse means Gary Hall Jnr can get off the pegs at the start of the race. He was fourth on debut at Pinjarra when sprinting home in 56.2 seconds. The first three home are smart from that race and Gardys Legacy was unlucky. He should prove hard to hold out late.
My Rated Price: $1.65
(10) Gardy's Legacy
$2.20
Race 11 – 11:55pm AEST
Some people love trotters and others don’t; some people love standing start racing and others don’t. This race combines trotters and a standing start race and the handicaps look to suit the Nathan Turvey-trained and driven (6) Tenno Sho. He will begin off 10m which looks excellent considering class trotters (9) Sunoflindenny and (10) Lord Liam have 30m and (11) Sun Of Anarchy has a whopping 50m to overcome. Tenno Sho is yet to win at Gloucester Park from five attempts, however his run two starts ago off a 40m handicap at Pinjarra suggests he will go close here. Lord Liam looks the main danger and (4) One Bid Buys can’t be ruled out off the front mark.
My Rated Price: $2.80
