The Meadows Greyhound Tips
Race 5
The first of three Group 1 races taking place at the Meadows Saturday night is for the stayers in the Zoom Top. I am keen on Poco Dorado after she came up with box one. This should allow her to use her early speed to try and lead or sit right behind the early pace. She has won six of her past eight starts, with a string of five victories broken in a non-graded Wentworth Park 720m event last time. She was unable to lead like in recent runs which cost her the race, but hopefully she steps brilliantly in this company.
I am most concerned about Tornado Tears who is first up and drawn box eight. He will try and carve over into the first three in running. If he is too close to Poco Dorado then we are probably in a fair bit of trouble, but if she can steal a break then she can go all the way to Zoom Top success.
Race 6
I weighed up Deliver and Neo Cleo as my top pick in the Rookie Rebel before settling on Deliver. What decided me to sway that way is box three compared to four and a recent 8L win by Deliver over Neo Cleo. Deliver’s last start 34.09 was impressive as he defeated Benali by 1.25L. Benali has been beaten by Deliver twice and Neo Cleo once in recent runs.
Deliver has won 12 from 23 career starts to date and looks a big chance of adding another Group 1 to his name.
Race 8
Orson Allen can capture Temlee success from box two. He won the Group 2 Cranbourne Cup last week with a 4.25L victory over Poke The Bear who will try and turn the tables. I don’t see that happening with Orson Allen chasing a fifth-straight win.
Poke The Bear, Hasten Slowly and Barooga Brett have all fallen victim to Orson Allen recently which is another reason I really like his chances. My Redeemer, the Melbourne Cup winner, does loom as a threat from box eight and if there is any trouble with the inside dogs early, he can make them all pay with his class.
Cannington Greyhound Tips
Race 5
Quara’s Emma absolutely loves the outside box with a perfect six-from-six when wearing the pink rug. She has captured her past four starts with all four coming over the 405m at Mandurah. Her last race at Cannington saw her win over this 520m distance from box seven when recording a 30.12 time. That is two lengths slower than the standard winning time for open company, but most of her rivals here aren’t up to that class.
There is speed drawn inside with Jade’s Blade and first starter Premium Share. Recording a 30.11 in a qualifying trial, Premium Share is definitely going to be a threat but Quara’s Emma has race experience and winning form on her side.
Race 6
A very competitive race here and I have found deciphering the form very difficult. The $5 on offer about Sunset Octavia represents value from box two after a last-start 30.09 win. Recent course and distance performances have been good with 30.14 and 30.18 runner-up performances in the past month.
Early box speed looks fairly even in this race which is why I am looking at one of the inside greyhounds. There is almost nothing between the David Hobby-trained Spirit Monelli and Sunset Octavia which is why I prefer the bigger odds runner.
