BALLARAT TIPS
RACE 4
#10 Scenic Sight broke her maiden in impressive fashion two starts ago at Mildura and then followed that with a 3rd placing in BM70 grade over in Adelaide last start. Back to midweek grade at Ballarat today, where Weir horses seem to grow a leg. #9 Gregorian Chant didn’t have a great deal of luck first up and did win second up last prep, while #1 Seberate gets blinkers first time and drops back from some strong Saturday races.
RACE 6
Competitive race but there’s three I’ll be having something on. #3 Our Chiquilla is the Weir runner and she’s always a live chance in a race like this. She was a winner five starts ago in this grade at Echuca and has since measured up in some better races. Drops back in grade today and can be competitive at $5. #11 Absolemn won well on debut having been very well backed. It was only a maiden on the synthetic surface but she sat three-wide without cover the entire race and still won cosily. Barrier 1 today so will get a nice run and looks certain to be in the finish at $5. #8 Chalcidian has a good second up record and is a winner at this track and distance. Oliver is a notable jockey booking so looks the value at $10.
Value: #8 Chalcidian $10 Sportsbet
RACE 8
D-day for #11 Won Ball today. He was sound first up without winning at Sandown in midweek metro grade but was poor in Adelaide last start when beaten 5L. Third up, back to Melbourne, back in grade, back on to a firm surface – he really should be going close in this race. We’re getting a reasonable price to find out with $4.20 available.
WARWICK FARM TIPS
RACE 5
Competitive race but two that interest me at decent prices. #7 Voila broke her maiden over 1100m at this track last start and defeated a subsequent winner in the process. Steps up to 1200m third up today and although she jumps from maiden company to BM70 grade, she looks capable of measuring up with Bowman on from barrier 1. #3 Whooshka resumes with the blinkers on for the first time today after two trials. Her form a couple of campaigns back was very strong for a race like this. She didn’t come up last prep but if she can return to her old form with the blinkers on she will go close at $9.
Value: #3 Whooshka $9.00 Ladbrokes
RACE 8
#6 Mahalangur was an impressive winner on debut as a juvenile but has since failed to go on with it. He resumes from a spell today with two trials under the belt and the most recent of those was very stylish. He had a fair wrap on him early days so I’m tipping based on that trial that he’s ready to live up to the hype.
