AFL Round 13 Preview & Betting Tips
Hawthorn vs Brisbane
Saturday 1:45pm AEST, June 10th, MCG
Both coming off losses in Adelaide last weekend, Hawthorn and Brisbane will face each other at the MCG on Saturday afternoon in Round 13.
Hawthorn were blown off the park early in the piece by a red-hot Port Adelaide outfit last weekend when conceding over 100 points in the first half alone. At one stage during the third quarter the Hawks trailed by 96 points and looked destined to go down by a triple-figure margin, but a combination of things saw the Hawks win the second half comfortably and add some respect to the final score line.
Meanwhile, Brisbane were defeated on the road by Adelaide who have proven to be a tricky side to face on their home deck. The Lions trailed for most of the match and eventually went down by 17 points in what was an entertaining battle.
On the back of their recent losses, the Hawks remain in 16th spot on the ladder with a 3-9 record, while the Lions are 4th having won 8/11 of their games.
At opposite ends of the ladder, these two clubs clearly have different expectations and aspirations in season 2023. The Hawks are simply rebuilding and getting as many games into their young, talented players as they can. In contrast, the Lions believe they’re in the premiership window and will be desperate to tick off as many wins as they can during the home and away season to set themselves up for a finals push.
With that in mind, I’m surprised the Lions are priced as only four-goal favourites at the time of writing. Yes, their road form isn’t nearly as good as their home form, but they’re a quality outfit that are at near full strength and simply must be defeating bottom four sides with ease.
I’m more than happy to back the Lions to put in a good performance against the young Hawks, especially after having the week off in Round 12 to freshen up. They should be covering the generous handicap on this occasion.

James Sicily 25+ Disposals – Was sorely missed last weekend and will naturally get a lot of the ball playing in defence for the Hawks in this one.
Conor McKenna 15+ Disposals – 15+ disposals in each of his last 16 matches at the MCG. He’s a great value leg for our SGM.
