AFL Round 11 Preview & Betting Tips
Adelaide vs Brisbane
Sunday 4:40pm AEST, May 28th, Adelaide Oval
Adelaide Crows tackles Brisbane Lions at Adelaide Oval on Sunday afternoon with the home side needing another win to stay in final eight calculations.
On the flip side, the second placed Lions won’t want to drop this one as a top two finish at the end of the season would see them earn a home final and a double chance.
Returning after a disappointing 45 point loss to the Bulldogs at Ballarat, Adelaide will want to get back to playing a more positive brand of football like it has done throughout 2023. Taylor Walker returns after being rested, while possible opponent, Jack Payne will miss the match due to injury. Another key Crows’ tall, Riley Thilthorpe is also tipped to return.
Full ins and outs of this one will be out on Friday night.
In 2022 when the sides last met it was a six-goal victory to Brisbane after Adelaide squandered many opportunities to eventually kick 9.12.66.
In this encounter, it will have to make the most of its forward 50 entries as Brisbane does have a sense of purpose in the way it's playing this year and that was evident when its pressure ranking exploded in round 9 when it smothered the Blues at Docklands for a victory.
Lachie Neale finished with 35 disposals the last time they met and Matthew Nicks may have to think about a tag this time around.
The Lions have been running out games strongly so a quick start and being switched on is important for the Crows here.
They only managed five goals last week and again were wasteful in front of the big sticks, so back at home on familiar territory they will want to make their inside-50s count.
Eric Hipwood and Joe Daniher have been playing together a while now inside the forward 50 and they are going to be key here.
If they can kick a half a dozen between them, the Lions should win.
Both teams are averaging a combined score of 161 points over the last three rounds and I think the total match score line of 173.5 may go under in this one.
It's an important match for both sides and a defensive mindset early may occur here.

Brisbane to Win - Brisbane are a six goal better side on paper and if we give Adelaide a couple of goals with its home ground advantage, i still think Brisbane win by around 24 points.
Under 172.5 Points - I think it may be defensive early but then the match will open up in the second half.
Joe Daniher 2+ Goals - Big Joe has a lot of support around him now with a fit Hipwood, Cameron and Rayner hanging around and he should be able to snag a couple.
