AFL Fremantle vs Brisbane Betting Tips
Optus Stadium, Sunday 8th August, 5.10pm (AEST)
One of just two games in Round 21 that pits two top eight teams against each other, this one has a lot of significance in shaping the top eight with just three rounds to go in the 2021 home and away season.
Match Preview
After a Round 16 win over the Crows, the Lions were absolutely flying, having won their last three in a row and sitting pretty inside the top four. They have since lost three of their last four games, slipping to 6th place in the process. Losses against the Saints, Tigers and most recently the Hawks in Round 20 have derailed their chances of a double chance in the finals, as they now sit a full two games outside of the top four with three rounds to go.
While they did lose star forward Eric Hipwood to a season ending knee injuries, health concerns can hardly be blamed for the Lions downfall over the past few weeks. They still have one of the shortest injury lists in the league, with only Hipwood, Cam Rayner, Darcy Gardiner and Marcus Adams currently missing from their best 22.
On the contrary to Brisbane, the Dockers have had a turn of form in the right direction since the mid-way point of the season. While they were absolutely decimated against the Cats a few weeks ago, they did bounce back to record a fantastic win over the Tigers at home in Round 20.
The Dockers have a much longer injury list than the Lions, missing skipper Nat Fyfe for the rest of the season along with key players Joel Hamling, Stephen Hill, Rory Lobb, Alex Pearce and Michael Walters. They do have the benefit of being at home for this clash, where they are 6-3 this season.
The Lions start as 10.5-point favourites here, which is a tough line for me to call either way. If this was in Brisbane, I’d have no problem picking the Lions to win by as much as 25-30, but in Perth, the Dockers have proven to be a different beast this year. I think this is a pretty close game that could go either way, I like the ‘any other result’ in the wire to wire market at $2.00.

In the last two games that Nat Fyfe has missed and David Mundy has played, the latter has averaged 28.5 touches per game, a massive increase on his 24.9 average in the 2021 season. Had 29 on the weekend against the Tigers and will be need to continue to carry the bulk of the load with Fyfe out.
Daniel Rich has had 20+ touches in all but one game this season while James Aish has had at least 15 disposals in 15/19 games.
