2021 AFL Round 16 Sydney vs West Coast Tips
This is arguably the most intriguing matchup set to play out this weekend with the 6th placed Swans ‘hosting’ the 7th placed Eagles in Geelong. Both clubs are coming off losses in Round 15 and will be looking to return to the winners list in what they will both see as a winnable game.

Match Prediction
The bye came at the right time for Sydney in Round 14 after they suffered their worst loss of the season to the lowly Hawks in the weekend prior. The Swans put in a much better showing in their first game back from the break, but were still unable to get over the line against the Power on the road. Regardless, they’ll be pleased with the fight they showed as well as how their season has panned out as a whole to date.
The Swans have one of the shortest injury lists in the league at the moment which will hold them in good stead for the remainder of the regular season. All of Braeden Campbell, Sam Reid and Chad Warner are just 1-2 weeks away from returning, while Sam Naismith is out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.
West Coast also had their scheduled bye in Round 14 but for them it probably came at a bad time considering they had just strung together two solid wins. The Eagles were extremely sluggish in their first game post break when getting thumped at home by the Bulldogs to the tune of 55 points. The good news for the Eagles is that they’ve managed to bounce back immediately from a loss with a win on 3/4 occasions this season.
Much like their opponents here, the Eagles don’t have too much to worry about on the injury front. The only player missing from their best 22 at the moment is Liam Ryan who’s serving a suspension and will be eligible to return for their clash with North Melbourne in Round 17.
As we mentioned above, both clubs are coming off losses and will be keen to return to the winners list this weekend to cement their place in the top eight for the time being. In our opinion, the Eagles have the bigger upside and can draw upon their huge win in Round 7 after getting belted by the Cats in the week prior. We’re expecting a similar type of bounce-back performance from this very talented Eagles side again this weekend, which should give them the edge over the brave but inexperienced Swans.

Same Game Multi
For the first leg of our three-leg Same Game Multi we’ll be taking the in-form Josh J. Kennedy from the Eagles to jag two goals. He was starved of opportunity last weekend and finished with just the one goal, but has kicked multiple goals in eight of his other 11 games this season. Secondly, we’ll be chucking in Tim Kelly to collect 25+ disposals on the ground that he knows very well after player a couple of seasons in Geelong. Finally, we’ll be adding in Will Hayward to kick a goal at any time, which he has been able to do in each of his last five games.
- Josh J. Kennedy 2+ Goals
- Tim Kelly 25+ Disposals
- Will Hayward Any Time Goal Scorer
