2021 AFL Round 13 West Coast vs Richmond Tips
Optus Stadium, Sunday 13th June 7:20pm (AEST)
This mouth-watering clash was initially scheduled for play in Round 14, but has been brought forward to Round 13 due to Covid complications. Regardless, you can expect an entertaining affair between two clubs coming off great wins last weekend and looking to head into their bye on a high.
Match Prediction
West Coast went into their clash with Carlton on the neutral ground in Sydney as the underdogs last weekend due to some poor performances in their two preceding games. However, the Eagles responded with a gritty wire-to-wire win to get their season back on track. They come into Round 13 with a 7-5 record and sit in seventh spot on the ladder.
The Eagles have been plagued by injuries this season but will get a couple of their stars back for this huge clash. Their forward line will be back to near full strength with Josh Kennedy and Oscar Allen coming in and they also get some more class around the ground with Liam Duggan returning from injury. Remaining on the sidelines for a few more weeks are stars Tim Kelly, Jeremy McGovern, Brad Sheppard and Luke Shuey.
Richmond found themselves in a danger game against the in-form Essendon last weekend and looked as though they were going to get run over the top of when the Bombers hit the front in the fourth quarter, but the defending champions found a gear their opposition didn’t have and ended up as very comfortable winners. It was an important win for the Tigers who remain in eighth spot with seven wins against five losses.
The Tigers have had their usually injury problems in the first half of the season, which has been the case during their recent premiership years. They get one of their star midfielders in Kane Lambert back from injury this week, but going out of the team with a hamstring injury is Dion Prestia. Other best 22 players on the sidelines are Tom Lynch, David Astbury and Toby Nankervis.
The home side has dominated this matchup since 2016 with wins in all five of their meetings, with the most recent in Perth ending in a 47-point win to the Eagles. The Tigers won their only meeting in 2020 by 27 points, which took place in Round 14 at Metricon Stadium.
Richmond put in a strong showing against the Bombers, particularly in the fourth quarter, to earn the points last weekend, but will need to be at their best to topple West Coast on their home deck this weekend. The Eagles have won their last two in Perth against the Tigers by a combined 115 points and have a +162 points differential from their six games at home this season, which makes it hard to build a case against them this weekend. As a result, we will be taking the Eagles to salute for one unit.
