MLB Betting Tips Wednesday 8th May
Seattle Mariners at New York Yankees (8.35am AEST)
The Yankees will be looking to close the gap to the Rays in the AL East on Wednesday when they face off against the Mariners at home. New York have won six of their last 10 games and are currently on a two game winning streak, including the opening matchup of their series against Seattle. They’ll have Masahiro Tanaka on the mound Wednesday, who has been a bit underwhelming in his start to the season with a 2-3 record and 3,92 ERA.
The Mariners also sit second in their respective division, just three games behind the Houston Astros in the AL West. However, they have won just three of their last 10 games. They’ll have their ace, Marco Gonzales on the mound Wednesday, who has been the shining light of the Mariners season so far with a 5-1 record and 3.28 ERA.
The Yankees start as strong favourites here but we are actually going to side with Seattle. They have been great on the road this year, boasting a 12-7 record, the second best in the American League. Seattle will be full of confidence with their ace on the mound. We think they are great value.
Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles (9.05am AEST)
After starting the season poorly and slipping to last in the AL East, the Red Sox have bounced back to win six of their last 10 games and have slowly climbed to third on the back of some stronger offence. They’ll have Hector Velazquez on the mound on Wednesday, who has been used primarily as an opener in his four starts so far this season, never pitching more than three innings before long relief comes in.
The Orioles currently sit last in the AL East with a 13-22 record, however, they have won their last two games including a fantastic 4-1 win in the opening game of the series against Boston on Tuesday. They’ll have righty David Hess on the mound Wednesday, who has just a 1-4 record so far this season and a 5.34 ERA.
Liked what Baltimore produced in the series opener on Tuesday but four runs will likely not be enough on Wednesday with Hess on the mound. Hess has given up 17 earned runs in his last 24 innings as a starter and Boston should be able to get the better of him Wednesday.
Atlanta Braves at Los Angeles Dodgers (12.10pm AEST)
The Atlanta Braves are in a tight duel in the NL East with the Phillies, who currently sit one game ahead with a 19-15 record. Atlanta have won six of their last 10 games but lost to the Dodgers in the series opener on Tuesday. Max Fried will be on the mound for the Braves on Wednesday looking to extend his great start to the season, which sees him maintaining a 4-1 with a 2.11 ERA.
The Dodgers have been one of the dominant forces in the MLB for the better part of the decade but have no World Series wins to show for it. They have started the 2019 season in great form once again, maintaining a National League best 22-14 record. Hyun-Jin Ryu will be on the mound Wednesday and has had a strong start to the season with a 3-1 record and a 2.55 ERA.
Tough match to call here. The Dodgers looked too good on Tuesday on the back of some great pitching by Walker Buehler and have another star starter on the mound Wednesday. We think they get the job done at home.
