Wednesday in the MLB offers a fantastic 15 game slate to look forward to and we are back once again with a full preview and betting tips for some of the best value matchups of the day below!
MLB Betting Tips Wednesday 21st August
Philadelphia Phillies at Boston Red Sox (9.10am AEST)
Boston will kick off a two game home stand against Philadelphia on Wednesday from 9.10am. The Red Sox currently sit 6.5 games outside of the wild-card race in the American League and will need to go on a big run to give themselves a chance heading into the final 40 games of the season. They have won seven of their last 10 games and are currently on a five game winning streak after dominating the Orioles in a three game series finishing Monday.
The Phillies find themselves in a similar position, trying to secure one of the two available wildcard positions in the National League. They currently sit just two games outside the race but have lost their last two in a row and won just five of their last 10. They’ll have righty Aaron Nola on the mound Wednesday, who is 5-2 with a 2.09 ERA in his last 11 starts.
The Boston starter for this game is still unknown due to Chris Sale recently being placed on the injury list with an elbow issue. They’ll likely have a bullpen replacement for this game, and although their batting line-up was good across their series against Baltimore, the matchup against Nola is a different story. Back the Phillies to win away from home.

New York Yankees at Oakland Athletics (12.05pm AEST)
The Yankees currently have the best record in the American League and sit a full 9.5 games clear of their nearest opponent in the AL East division. They have won seven of their last 10 games and will kick off a three game series in Oakland on Wednesday before heading to LA for a three game series against the Dodgers in what could be a potential World Series preview.
The Yankees will have Domingo German on the mound on Wednesday, who has been on fire over his last four starts. The righty has won all four games, taking his season tally to 16-2 and has a fantastic ERA of 3.96. He’ll be up against another right hander in Homer Bailey, who has a 10-8 record and 5.22 ERA on the season so far.
Tough to look past the Yankees here. It’s likely they’ll start scaling back the innings of the starters in an attempt to get some rest into them before the playoffs start, however, their batting line-up has been too good of late to not pick them against the Athletics.
Toronto Blue Jays at Los Angeles Dodgers (12.10pm AEST)
The Blue Jays chances of making the playoffs this season are over as they currently sit 22 games out of the wildcard race in the American League and are 31.5 games behind New York in the AL East division. They’ll be playing the rest of the season for pride and will have Sean Reid-Foley on the mound Wednesday to face the Dodgers.
The righty has made just six starts this season, most of them as openers and has a 2-3 record with a 3.00 ERA. He’ll have a tough matchup on Wednesday, going up against one of the best pitchers in all of baseball, Clayton Kershaw. The 3x Cy Young award winner has been lights out this season, maintaining a 12-2 record with a 2.63 ERA.
Kershaw was unhittable in his last start, throwing seven scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts against Miami last week. Tough to see the Blue Jays doing much damage against him Wednesday. Back the Dodgers to get an easy win.
