The 2019 MLB season continues this Wednesday, the 19th of June with a fantastic 13 game slate! We take a look at some of the key matchups of the day and give our betting tips below.
MLB Betting Tips Wednesday 19th June
Detroit Tigers at Pittsburgh Pirates (9.05am AEST)
The Tigers will be desperate to snap a four game losing streak on Wednesday when they face off against the Pirates in Pittsburgh from 9am. They currently sit in fourth place in the American League Central Division, a full 21 games behind the Twins in first place. Daniel Norris will be on the mound for the Tigers Wednesday, the lefty has a 2-5 record with a 4.52 ERA.
The Pirates find themselves in a similar position in the National League Central Division. They have won just two of their last 10 games and sit fourth in the division with a 32-39 record. Mitch Keller will be making just his third Major League start on Wednesday after struggling in his first two outings. His opponents are hitting .472 through the two starts.
The Pirates start as slight favourites here but its hard to bet on them with Keller on the mound, even at home. The rookie has a monster 15.43 ERA through two starts and we think the Tigers could get a hold of him here.
Chicago White Sox at Chicago Cubs (10.05am AEST)
The White Sox and Cubs will kick off a two game series on Wednesday from 10.00am. Both of the Chicago sides are right in the mix in their respective conferences. The Cubs sit just one game behind the Brewers in the NL Central while the White Sox are just 3.5 games outside of the wildcard in the American League.
Ivan Nova will be on the mound for the White Sox on Wednesday and will be looking to improve on a 3-5 record through 14 starts so far in 2019. He’ll have his work cut out for him on Wednesday as he goes up against the star lefty Cole Hamels, who has a 6-2 record and a 2.98 ERA through 14 starts this year.
Tough to get excited about the White Sox, especially going up against Hamels. Cubs should win this one pretty comfortably.
TIP: Tip coming soon!
Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks (11.40am AEST)
Very interesting matchup here between two sides fighting for the wildcard positions in the National League. Both the Rockies and Diamondbacks have been good in 2019 so far, unfortunately, they find themselves in the same division as the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have the best record in baseball and have all but sewn up the NL West already.
One of these two teams can edge ahead in the wildcard race with a strong performance in the three game series starting on Wednesday. Right-hander Merrill Kelly will be on the mound for the home side and will be looking to improve on a 7-6 record through 14 starts in 2019. Wasn’t fantastic last time he faced the Rockies, allowing four runs in just over six innings.
He’ll be going up against Antonio Senzatela, who has been inconsistent, to say the least in 2019. In three of his last five stars, the right-hander has posted a 2.00 ERA, however, in the other two starts he has given up a combined 16 runs. Tough to know which Senzatela will step out on Wednesday, particularly away from home. Back the Diamondbacks at home.
