Tough day for us last Thursday in our MLB betting tips as we lost on two of our tips with the third game being postponed due to bad weather. It was a manageable disappointment, however, after hitting on 4 of our last 6 bets since moving to two days a week. We’ll look for some more winners here as we preview some of the key games of the day this Tuesday, the 8th of August including the ESPN televised Chicago Cubs at San Francisco Giants.
Chicago Cubs at San Francisco Giants (12pm AEST)
Once again, our betting day falls on the day Jake Arrieta is pitching for the Chicago Cubs. We’re not complaining though, the right hander has been on fire lately, producing one of his best outings of the year in his last start against the Diamondbacks last weekend. Arrieta allowed one run through seven innings in the start to lower his ERA to 3.88 on the season on the back of a 10-8 record.
He comes up against Matt Moore who has had a fairly lacklustre season to date with just a 3-11 record and a 5.80 ERA. Both teams have fairly below average batting lineups so it’s hard to look past the massive pitching mismatch that is Arrieta vs Moore. Cubs should win this one away from home to move to 59-52 on the season.
TIP: Chicago Cubs -1.5 - $1.91 at Sportsbet
Miami Marlins at Washington Nationals (9am AEST)
We’ll be looking to target another pitching mismatch in our 2nd game of the day as Max Scherzer and the Nationals take on Miami from 9am. Scherzer left his last start before the second innings due to neck spasms but has been cleared to return to the mound Tuesday as Washington face the Chris O’Grady.
O’Grady will be making just his 6th start in Major League Baseball. He gave up six runs in just three innings in his last start and holds a 5.40 career ERA. If it wasn’t for the Dodgers ridiculous form at the moment one could call the Nationals the best team in the league. They boast the third most hits in all of baseball and have a former Cy Young winner on the mound, should be too strong at home.
TIP: Washington -1.5 – Price to come
Milwaukee Brewers at Minnesota Twins (10am AEST)
The pitching matchup of the day pits Brent Suter against Ervin Santana as the Twins host the Brewers from 10am. Suter has started just 7 games this season but has been great out of the bullpen, maintaining a 3.04 ERA with 44 strikeouts through 50 innings. He’ll be starting in place of the injured Chase Anderson against the Twins ace Ervin Santana.
Santana is 12-7 through 22 starts so far this season and arguably would have a few more wins to his name if he could get some more run support from his Twins. Minnesota have a bottom 10 offence in hits and batting average and have produced just 19 runs in Santana’s last six starts. Luckily for the Twins, Milwaukee’s offence is also bottom ten so it should be a great chance for Santana to get another win on the board here. We like the home team in this one.
TIP: Minnesota Twins to win - $1.78 at Sportsbet
