We are five races into the 2017 Formula 1 season as we offer our 2017 Monaco Grand Prix betting tips. Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton are currently neck and neck at the top of the table with 104 and 98 points respectively.
The two drivers have two wins apiece and will battle it out on Sunday in arguably the highest profile event of the Formula 1 calendar, the Monaco Grand Prix. The opening five races of the season have seen a rivalry form between Mercedes and Ferrari, with the two manufacturers claiming first and second in every race so far.
Aussie Daniel Ricciardo is the best of the rest with 37 points, just two ahead of his Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen before what seems to be a decent gap to the rest of the manufacturers.
2017 Monaco Grand Prix Betting Tips
Monaco will mark the second out of five street circuits of the 2017 Season, and is one of the tightest courses throughout the year. Daniel Ricciardo describes the street circuit as ‘seperating the men from the boys’ and its tight nature and short straights mean that Ferrari and Mercedes might not have the advantage that they have in prior races.
Recent retiree Jenson Button will return for a one off race for old team McLaren in place of Fernando Alonso, who is being allowed to miss the race to compete in the American Indy 500 on the same day. It will be a welcome return for the former F1 Champion, who won the Monaco GP back in 2009. He will most likely just be looking after the car until Alonso returns for the next race but at $67, Button might want to prove he can still match it with the best.
It’s going to be extremely hard to look past the Hamilton and Vettel coming into any event in the 2017 season. They are arguably the two best drivers on the circuit in the two best cars. No doubt teammates Kimi Raikkonen and Valtteri Bottas will chime in for a win or two throughout the season but the lead riders should be the mainstays.
TIP: Lewis Hamilton to win Monaco GP - $2.25 at Sportsbet
All the money will be on the top two drivers here, but don’t rule out Ricciardo, who, after leading all race finished second in Monaco last year due to a slow pit stop. Ricciardo has called Monaco home since 2013 and knows the course extremely well. At odds of $16, he’s the most likely man not driving a Ferrari or Mercedes to win.
TIP: Daniel Ricciardo podium finish Monaco GP - $2.88 at Sportsbet
