Welcome to our preview and horse racing betting tips for the best betting races at Warwick Farm, Sandown and Ascot on Wednesday, April 11th.
We’ve taken a look at all three cards and selected the races we’re keenest to bet into, and you can find our tips and comments on each of those below.
Best Bet: Sandown Race 2 #2 Hawkshot
Next Best Bet: Warwick Farm Race 5 #5 Art Of Excellence
WARWICK FARM RACING TIPS
RACE 3
An apprentice race to kick things off here and there’s only two winning chances for mine. I think (1) Higher Ground brings the best form line to the race behind the likes of Dissolution, but I think (4) Grand Finalist has the best apprentice on and maps better than Higher Ground. Higher Ground has had to runs back this prep and has been close up on both occasions. Should roll straight to the front here and will be hard to run down.
TIP: (4) Grand Finalist
RACE 5
I Think (5) Art Of Excellence is one of the best bets of the day here. He ran well here first up when finishing 3rd over 1200m and now steps up to 1300m second up. He’s never finished out of the money second up, and his pet distance is 1400m so the extra trip is certain to help. He’s drawn perfectly in barrier 3 and looks the one to beat in a race that lacks a bit of depth. Very keen. Took the $6 available earlier and now into $4.60.
TIP: (5) Art Of Excellence
RACE 7
Sticking with (6) Philosophy first up from a spell here. I was keen to back him when he was entered in a Saturday race a couple of weeks ago but he was scratched from that. He returns in Wednesday grade here and I think he’s definitely capable of going onto better races than this. He’s got a good fresh record with two wins and a placing from three starts, has won over the track and distance and draws well in barrier 5 for Corey Brown. (8) Arancini looks the biggest danger in the race, while (7) Token Of Love is a roughie first up.
TIP: (6) Philosophy
SANDOWN RACING TIPS
RACE 2
(2) Hawkshot has been very well backed here and looks one of the best bets of the day. This horse won a 1200m maiden at Ballarat on debut and now comes straight to the city at his second start. Bred by Fiorente so no doubt he’ll appreciate the step up in distance to 1400m, and he follows the tried and true method of Weir bringing horses to the city after a good run in the country. It’s a fairly decent race for a Wednesday but I expect him to be winning. $2.35 and could start shorter the way the market has reacted so far.
TIP: (2) Hawkshot
RACE 4
I thought it was a good effort by (1) Sherlock Holmes to win first up given he’d never done so previously from four attempts. That tells me he’s much fitter and fresher than what he may have been over in Europe. He comes here second up today and he has won second up previously, so if there’s some improvement to come from his first up win he’ll be very hard to run down here. He won over 2400m first up and stays at that distance today, which is a big tick, and despite the rise to 60.5kg I think he should be taking care of these at $2.50.
TIP: (1) Sherlock Holmes
RACE 7
We’re not getting $23 today but they somehow put up $7 for (11) Street Sheikh, which was quickly snapped up and he’s now into $3.60. His first up run over 1300m here was enormous, settling wide without cover and still managing to motor home from off the pace to be beaten a head. He’s much better drawn today, comes down in weight and goes up in distance. Craig Williams takes over the ride and he looks hard to hold out. (3) Ancient Echoes comes off two big wins to start his campaign and looks the one he’ll have to beat.
TIP: (11) Street Sheikh
RACE 8
Two I’m mainly interested in here. I know the Hawkes stable have long had a good opinion of (5) Kilmacurragh and he returned from a spell with a dominant win at Pakenham. While I generally don’t trust Pakenham form going into city races, the win was dominant and this is one horse I think can handle the step up in class. Hopefully rolls forward from barrier 11. (11) Kazio is going very well and was luckless last start. $3.70 available. Was about to really hit the line hard but clipped heels at the 50m mark and that was his race over. Before that he ran 2nd to Heptagon, which followed a win at Sale. Looks to have a good chance from the good draw here. Should get upwards of $6 for him.
TIP: (5) Kilmacurragh / (11) Kazio EW
ASCOT RACING TIPS
RACE 5
Backing (6) Seaside Serenade here, who comes off a dominant win at Bunbury last start over 1200m. Draws well in barrier 4 and should appreciate the step up to 1400m. (2) Forty Four Red looks the one he’ll have to beat. Keen to take on (1) Atacama Sky who steps up from 1000m to 1400m.
TIP: (6) Seaside Serenade
RACE 7
With (1) Young Thor scratched, (2) Prozone looks clearly the one to beat now. He broke through for a maiden win at Pinjarra two starts ago before tackling a Listed race last time out when beaten 4.5L by Money Maher, who has since won again in Listed grade. Drops back to a Class 1 here, and ran 2nd over this track and distance three starts ago. Biggest concern for me is the jockey booking (doesn’t ride many metro winners) but hopefully he can pull something out of the bag here.
TIP: (2) Prozone
RACE 8
Following my money with (8) Demeritorious here, who I backed first up at huge odds when he ran 3rd over this track and distance. He was first up from a spell on that occasion with just the one trial under the belt, so he should have plenty of improvement in him. Once again draws well in barrier 2, will just need a good ride to navigate through a bit of traffic. $4.80 is a decent price.
TIP: (8) Demeritorious
