The annual Warrnambool May Carnival is here once again with three massive days of racing ahead for die hard punters to enjoy.
I have concentrated on the first day of the carnival here but will be analysing all three days of racing in what’s truly one of the best carnivals Australia wide.
Brierly Day is where it’s at and the steeplechase which runs over 3450m will commence at 2:20pm on a Soft6 surface. You can find my best bet for that race plus more below!
Warrnambool Racing Tips – Tuesday, May 2nd 2023
Race 2
(8) Teofilo Star was in front for 3150m of his 3200m Pakenham Hurdle race last time and with that run under his belt i think he can settle on pace again here and win. From barrier 14 he will have to cross over but that shouldn't matter in a race of this distance. He was backed to win last start which indicates to me that he is no slouch over the jumps and he will likely start favourite again here. In his last flat run it was a nice 2nd, again beaten close up at The Valley.
(7) Reserve Street from the Maher & Eustace camp is the main danger despite just jogging around in a Terang maiden last week. Before that trial he ran 2nd in the Warracknabeal Cup over 1600m and he is down in class on that run. He is on debut over the jumps but will have been well educated.
(9) The Rattlin’ Bog trialed well in a recent hurdle trial and he has been around this circuit a few times now which will help. He is on debut and can handle the ground.
(5) Killourney has been well supported in betting recently but it has been over 3 years since his last win. Interesting runner.
(8) Teofilo Star - WIN
$2.35 (4 Units)
Race 3
(5) Impulsar is having his jumps debut but trialed well when running 2nd at Terang on April 21. Steve Pateman was on that morning and the champion jumps jockey sticks with him here. He is first up here but he’s a classy one having won 4 from 8 in his short career. He has enough fitness in the legs by the looks of it and gets the nod here.
(8) Tom Foolery is on his jumps debut and his preferred ground is Soft. He was beaten 4L in his jumps trial but he did look more than capable and there has been a few early whispers around for him on radio today (Monday).
(3) Carisbrook is another on jumps debut but does have the services of WIll McCarthy who is one of the best jumps jockeys in Victoria. He won his Terang trial beating a handy line up.
(2) Booker Tee for Simon Wilde didn't look that good in his trial but Wilde wouldn't race him here if he wasn't up to it on his home track. Was 10th of 16 at Geelong last start but was steadily making up late ground.
(5) Impulsar - WIN
$2.20 (4 Units)
Race 6
(7) Valac fell in this race in 2022 and i reckon the Pateman’s are out for redemption this year with this guy. He trialed pretty well last week at Warrnambool behind Britannicus and he did go ok despite being last in a Bendigo B64 Flat race last month. He did fall in a trial last month which is a small worry but he has won over this distance and has won on the Soft ground on 4 occasions.
(9) Police Camp is a veteran campaigner who I reckon is over the odds here. He is 9 years old now but he did look good winning a Warrnambool trial last week.
(6) Britannicus has got the confidence up after winning a trial last week and he is another who is out for redemption after going down by a nose last year.
(4) Riding High for Henry Dwyer is up in class but has won 5 from 11 over the jumps and could surprise. He does love the Soft but the worry is that he hasn't been placed in a while.
(7) Valac - WIN
$3 (3 Units)
Race 7
(10) Boyszee from barrier 9 will try to come over and sit in the top 2 in this race. He is 4th up now and should be ready to fire after going forward and running 2nd at Hillside last start. He likes this distance and knows the track well and I expect support late for this guy. Johnny Allen is back on replacing Celine Gaudray.
(12) Brawl will appreciate this surface and he did run well after going down narrowly for 2nd at Stawell last start.
(8) Feuermond has drawn well in 3 and has already attracted market support. He is on his home track and should find this easier. If they go too hard in front, he will be swooping late.
(5) Bazini has drawn poorly in 16 but does go very well 2nd up. Maybe if they are going wide, he can win.
(10) Boyszee - WIN
$5.50 (2 Units)
