Plenty of good horse racing across Australia this afternoon, with Day 2 of the Warrnambool carnival headlining the action. We also have metropolitan racing at Canterbury in Sydney and Ascot in Perth.
Tim Geers has stepped in to fill the shoes of Billy Bestford, and he’s highlighted four best bets for the day below!
Today's Racing Tips: Wednesday, May 4th
Canterbury Race 7
This three-year-old had his first start for the Chris Waller stable at Warwick Farm, where he won well to take his record to two wins and two 2nds from five starts. He handled the heavy 9 well on that occasion so the conditions shouldn’t pose a problem here, and he draws a plum gate once again in barrier 3, which should see him settle handy for James McDonald. Rises in class to a BM72 but looks a horse with potential to make his way through the grades and should be hard to beat again today.
(14) Democracy Manifest
$2.35
Ascot Race 1
Made a strong impression on debut this three-year-old filly, winning over this track and distance. She beat Born To Talk by 1.25L on that occasion and that horse then came out and won its next start. Because of that, Alsephina actually meets Born To Talk slightly better at the weights for when they last met, and she comes up with a great draw once again in barrier 2. Looks very hard to beat and wouldn’t surprise me to see her start much shorter than $1.95.
Ascot Race 5
Made a super return to race first up from a 46-week spell two weeks ago, where he ran 2nd by 1.1L to King Cruzer, who he meets again today. I think the step up to 1200m should benefit Schoolhouse Rock, who has won twice from three attempts when second up from a spell, and he also meets King Cruzer 1kg better at the weights. Comes up with barrier 1 so he’s likely to need some luck, but he looks a good each way bet at $6.50.
(2) Schoolhouse Rock
$6.50
Warrnambool Race 2
Peter Moody brings one runner to Warrnambool for the carnival and that’s Life Lessons, who was terrific on debut behind Fuller at Sandown. They pulled 7L clear of the 3rd horse, which is generally a very good indication that the first two are above average. Doubt Moody would be bringing her all the way to Warrnambool if he didn’t think she’d win.
