Australia Day eve racing heads to Pakenham on Wednesday afternoon with the club hosting an eight race twilight meeting with the first of the program getting underway at 5:35pm.
Runners will race on a Good 4 surface and there should be a healthy crowd in attendance in what is expected to be a lovely evening with the public holiday the next day.
Brendan Bunworth is back with his best bets for the Pakenham card below.

Pakenham Racing Tips - Wednesday January 25th 2023
Race 2
*SCRATCHED* (5) Lavish Thinker for Philip Stokes and Zac Spain go into the race with a gelding that has run to seconds in his three-start career. He missed out last time when 4th but was beaten less than a length on that occasion. He probably got back a little too far at Cranbourne for running on very well when the race was all but over. That race was over 1400m and it looks like the extra 200m will suit in this event.
(1) Brand New is the obvious danger for Peter Moody and Jamie Kah after running well on debut after leading at Cranbourne on a Good surface. The Tivaci/Kim Dynasty runner will attract plenty of support and will likely go forward again from barrier two.
(2) Chihuly ran on very nicely at Mornington last time when 2nd on a Good surface. Froggy Newitt goes on.
(6) Let’s Roll has a wide barrier in 10 but plugged away pretty well when settling on pace at Geelong last start.
Race 3
(7) Dancinginthedark is trying to make amends for punters after letting them down last start at Cranbourne when fifth. Before that though it was an excellent run at the same track for 2nd and that is the eye catcher. Ethan Brown stays on and will know this horse better now. Barrier six is ideal and he should be able to sit around midfield in the run in a race that doesn't look too hard to win.
(2) Mr Rouquin has been backed to win his last couple of starts and only been fair. But he is in a leading stable (Hayes) and they just might have him right for this. If not, it may be paddock time.
(10) Radstar has drawn well in barrier two but she did get a long way back on debut. They will probably sit her closer in this.
(11) Subculture has run two 4th’s in his last couple and I expect him to finish around that position again.
(7) Dancinginthedark
$2.10 (4 units)
Race 7
(6) Sunfall was poor when first up from a spell (9th) but backed that up with a very good 2nd at Ladbrokes Park (Lakeside) and that is the run that I am going off here. The son of Zoustar/Queen of the Falls was about 7th with 300m to go in that race and finished 2nd going down less than half a length. If he can produce that sort of effort again he should be right in this for Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr.
(5) Rhinoceros is down in class and comes into this race after a good 3rd at The Valley. He hasn't done much at the distance but this isn't a hard race and he has been freshened for this.
(12) Warm Smile is first up after entering the Maher & Eustace stable from England. Market support is expected.
(13) Revue is first up for Team McEvoy and has won first up prior.
(6) Sunfall
$5.50 (1 unit)
Race 8
(6) Colombe D’or was 2nd at Cranbourne last time out for the Maher & Eustace team and after being a beaten favourite she can hit back here. Her only win was on a Heavy track but she has placed on a Good surface before so that should be fine. Ethan Brown is off and Johnny Allen hops on and I expect him to setter her around midfield in the run.
(7) Nakedness has a wide barrier in 11 after having the inside draw at Mornington last start. She has started her career well and has to be respected.
(8) Suizuro has won on a Good surface before and she will likely settle 2nd or 3rd in the run.
(3) Top Arctic ran well last campaign and should improve second up here.
(6) Colombe D’or
$2.50 (3 units)
