2020 AFL Brownlow Medal Votes Round 18

September 22nd 2020, 3:36pm, By: Brownlow Bandit

AFL Brownlow Votes Round 18

That's it! The 2020 AFL regular season has come to an end and just eight teams remain in contention for the 2020 premiership in one of the most bizarre seasons in history. While teams had to travel all over the country and survive in unusual circumstances, there was one player who rose to the top as the clear stand out performer of 2020 and that is Brisbane's Lachie Neale. It's impossible to see him failing to win "Charlie" on Brownlow Medal night and it should be a dominant victory. However there will still be plenty of betting fun to be had with team voting, totals, round/game voting and more to keep us entertained on Brownlow night. Stay tuned in the coming weeks as we release our team votes and a heap of betting plays as Brownlow markets open up.

Our Brownlow Medal predictions and rolling Brownlow Medal tracker allow you to keep an eye on the Brownlow betting markets throughout the season, so that you can build a green book so that by the time the 2020 Brownlow Medal night rolls around we’re assured of a profit!

You’ll be able to stay up to date with our live 2020 Brownlow Medal leaderboard, while there will be links to round-by-round voting posted there.

For those who need a refresher on how our Brownlow vote predictor system works, we assign 6 votes per game so that our total votes are the same as the official 3-2-1 system, however we break up those votes as we see fit across potentially more than three players. Some games are really tough to call which way the votes will go, so a better predictive model is to split performances and assign half points to each player where there is doubt. So for example if two players dominate and it's too hard to split their performance, they are given 2.5 votes each, with the remaining 1 vote given to another player(s). This will give us a predictive total closer to their true total, rather than guessing. We can then form a 'range' for each player (i.e. a min and max we think players can poll) with the thinking behind this that the variations from the half votes will even out over the long term.

Round 18 Brownlow Medal Votes

Lachie Neale wrapped up the 2020 Brownlow Medal with yet another best-on-ground performance in Round 18. Contenders Jack Steele and Travis Boak may also be in the votes but the gap by this stage is likely to be insurmountable. Check out our Round 18 Brownlow vote predictions below.

North Melbourne 4.10.34 def by West Coast 7.7.49

North jumped out of the blocks but West Coast responded and got the job done on their way to yet another finals campaign. It might be a tricky game for votes with Andrew Gaff (26 disposals) and Dom Sheed (23 disposals) both effective in the middle, Shannon Hurn (23 disposals) good at half back and Liam Ryan (15 disposals, 2 goal) as dynamic as ever. However the best players on ground were arguably with the Kangaroos as Jy Simpkin (32 disposals, 5 tackles) and Jed Anderson (30 disposals, 5 clearances, 1 goal) were prolific. Will be interesting to see how the umpires see this one.

Jed Anderson – 3
Andrew Gaff – 2
Jy Simpkin – 0.5
Liam Ryan – 0.5

St.Kilda 12.10.82 def GWS Giants 3.12.30

The Saints will play finals after demolishing a disappointing GWS team to the tune of 50 points. Jack Steele (18 disposals, 7 tackles, 10 clearances and 2 goals) was again one of the best for the Saints, while Rowan Marshall (18 disposals, 7 marks, 7 hitouts, 1 goal) continues to impress. Lachie Whitfield (28 disposals, 13 marks) and the returning Stephen Coniglio (23 disposals, 6 marks) tried hard for the Giants to no avail.

Jack Steele – 3
Rowan Marshall – 2
Stephen Coniglio – 0.5
Lachie Whitfield – 0.5

Essendon 7.7.49 def by Melbourne 10.8.68

The Dees ended the season with a win but it wasn’t enough to hold onto the top eight as they narrowly missed the finals. Max Gawn (26 hitouts, 17 disposals) fed his midfield with Christian Petracca (23 disposals, 7 marks, 1 goal) and Ed Langdon (23 disposals, 13 marks) the best in the middle. Steven May also continued his good season with 21 disposals and 7 marks in defence, while Mitch Brown surprised with 20 disposals and 13 marks after coming back into the team. Zach Merrett was best for the Dons with 25 disposals, 7 marks, 9 tackles and 5 clearances.

Max Gawn – 3
Ed Langdon – 1
Christian Petracca – 1
Mitch Brown - 1

Adelaide 4.9.33 def by Richmond 12.5.77

Richmond secured a top four spot while Adelaide landed the wooden spoon after the Tigers recorded a comfortable win. Dusty Martin had plenty of ball with 28 disposals, including 16 contested, but he was a little wasteful. Shane Edwards (18 disposals, 8 clearances) and Jayden Short (20 disposals, 7 marks) were also influential. Reilly O’Brien was a stand out for the Crows in the ruck with 19 disposals, 7 marks and 29 hitouts while Matt Crouch (30 disposals) was typically prolific.

Dustin Martin – 3
Shane Edwards – 2
Reilly O’Brien - 1

Brisbane 11.12.78 def Carlton 10.1.61

The Lions locked up a top two spot after getting the job done against Carlton in wet conditions. Lachie Neale put the exclamation point on his Brownlow winning season with 29 disposals and 5 clearances to be best for the Lions while Daniel Rich (22 disposals, 2 goals) was brilliant by foot. Sam Walsh capped off an excellent season with 31 disposals, including 21 contested, and 6 clearances to figure in the votes.

Lachie Neale – 3
Sam Walsh – 2
Daniel Rich - 1

Hawthorn 17.6.108 def Gold Coast 8.9.57

The Hawks finished their season on a high with a big win over a tired Suns team. Jack Gunston was the star with 18 disposals, 11 marks and 4 goals, and he also handed another to the retiring Ben Stratton in one of the moments of the season. Tom Mitchell (34 disposals, 7 marks, 5 clearances) was busy, along with Dylan Moore (25 disposals, 8 marks, 1 goal), Liam Shiels (26 disposals, 5 tackles, 1 goal) and James Cousins (24 disposals, 7 marks).

Jack Gunston – 3
Tom Mitchell – 2
Dylan Moore - 1

Sydney 9.9.63 def by Geelong 10.9.69

The Cats had to work for it, but they did enough to fall over the line against the Swans and land a vital double chance in the finals. Sam Menegola (25 disposals, 10 marks, 5 clearances) was one of their best, but it was Patrick Dangerfield who got them back into the game with 3 important goals among 14 disposals and 5 marks. Josh Kennedy (25 disposals, 1 goal) and Jordan Dawson (22 disposals, 1 goal) were good for the Swans while Tom Papley (17 disposals, 5 marks, 2 goals) was busy but missed too many chances on goal.

Sam Menegola – 3
Patrick Dangerfield – 2
Josh Kennedy – 0.5
Tom Papley – 0.5

Fremantle 6.8.44 def by Western Bulldogs 11.8.74

The Bulldogs will play finals after doing what they needed to do against the Dockers. Lachie Hunter (35 disposals, 7 marks, 1 goal) and Tom Liberatore (25 disposals, 8 tackles, 7 clearances) were stand outs in the middle while Tim English (14 disposals, 20 hitouts, 2 goals) performed well in the ruck. For the Dockers, Nat Fyfe (23 disposals, 6 clearances, 2 goals) and Caleb Serong (25 disposals, 6 tackles) were best.

Lachie Hunter – 3
Tom Liberatore – 2
Nat Fyfe - 1

Collingwood 7.3.45 def by Port Adelaide 9.7.61

Port Adelaide have gone coast-to-coast in season 2020 to claim the minor premiership, as Collingwood will be the only team entering the finals after coming off a loss.  Dan Houston was superb across half-back with 23 disposals and 12 marks, most of which were intercepting the opposition attacks. Tom Rockliff (30 disposals, 10 clearances, 1 goal) and Robbie Gray (25 disposals, 6 clearances) were important in the midfield. Taylor Adams (26 disposals, 11 tackles, 6 clearances) was tireless for the Pies.

Dan Houston – 3
Tom Rockliff – 2
Taylor Adams - 1
