Horse Racing Tips: Friday, August 28th
Bordertown Race 1 (Market)
Trainer Travis Doudle is lethal when he brings his runners to Bordertown. He’s had eight runners here in the past 12 months, resulting in four winners and three placings. He sends out (4) Eightbalsidepocket here on debut, coming into this off a trial at Morphettville where he ran 5th, beaten 3L. It showed good speed to lead in that trial and although he was pretty ordinary overall, he didn’t have the blinkers on there and he does get them on for race day. He should jump straight to the front and be very hard to catch.
(4) Eightbalsidepocket
$2.70
Pakenham Race 5 (Market)
Good little race with a few hopes. (4) Magazine won over this track and distance in this grade last start and lines up with the same weight again today. She had the perfect run on that occasion but draws 7 today as opposed to 1 last start. I think she can win again though. This stable is absolutely flying. They’re striking at 31% for the new season and John Allen has had eight winners from 18 rides for them so far this season. This is the Maher/Eustace stable’s only runner of the day – they have a 40% strike rate at the track so expect this to be very hard to beat. Look to save on (5) Pharrell at $7.00. Ran 2nd to Magazine last start and meets it better at the weights today.
Pakenham Race 7 (Market)
Another trainer with an outstanding record on the synthetic track here at Pakenham is Matt Laurie, who has seven winners and four placings from 19 runners here in the past 12 months. (10) A Pinch Of Luck absolutely destroyed her opposition on debut on the synthetic at Ballarat, scoring by 6L. She then went straight to midweek metro grade and was a very heavily backed favourite, starting $2.10, but failed. She returns to a much easier race today, back to the synthetic and looks very hard to beat with $3.80 seemingly a good bet! (11) Anitra looks the obvious danger.
(10) A Pinch Of Luck
$3.80
Gosford Race 6 (Market)
One at a bit of value today is (13) Single Tonite at $8.00. She started $1.65 on debut at Newcastle but went down narrowly over 900m. She should improve from that and the step up to 1200m could be the key. Her SP on debut deserves plenty of respect. Rachel King takes over from Jay Ford, John O’Shea has a 31% strike rate here at Gosford and it’s his only runner of the day. There’s a $1.90 favourite engaged but I think Single Tonite is a great each way bet at that price.
