The smorgasbord of EPL action continues this weekend as we look toward Matchday 35. With just four games to go in the season, both the relegation race and the race to qualify for European compeittions are starting to heat up!
We have a full preview and betting tips for some of the key matchups across the weekend below.
EPL Matchday 35 Betting Tips
Watford vs Newcastle United
Vicarage Road, Saturday 9.30pm (AEST)
Massive game for Watford on Saturday night as they host Newcastle from 9.30pm. Watford currently sit in 17th place on the EPL table, just three points clear of the relegation zone and a win here would almost ensure they stay in the top flight next season. They captured a solid win over Norwich City on the weekend and with games against West Ham, Manchester City and Arsenal to come, it makes this winnable game against Newcastle super important.
Newcastle were hammered to the tune of 5-0 by Manchester City on the weekend, allowing a steady stream of goals throughout the game to move to 11-10-13 on the season. They sit clear of the relegation zone and well behind any European qualification race, so they’ll probably be in cruise control for the remainder of the season.
Really like the look of Watford here. They have so much on the line and despite a lengthy injury list at the moment, they should come out firing. They haven’t lost to Newcastle in their last three meetings, winning one of those games 2-0 and drawing the other two 1-1. Back them to record three points here against a Newcastle team that might not have much stock in this game.
Sheffield United vs Chelsea
Bramall Lane, Sunday 2.30am (AEST)
Arguably the game of the round as 3rd placed Chelsea squares off against 7th place Sheffield on Sunday morning. The Blues recorded a fantastic win over Crystal Palace through the week to move into third place on the table with a 18-6-10 record. They sit just one point clear of Leicester and two points ahead of Manchester United, so they’ll be desperate to win here to maintain their advantage.
Sheffield United also recorded a great win on the weekend, one that shattered Wolverhampton’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League. Sheffield secured a 1-0 win with a 93rd minute goal from John Egan to move into 7th place on the ladder.
When the two teams met earlier in the season at Stamford Bridge, the game ended in a 2-2 draw thanks to an 89th minute own goal by Kurt Zouma. Chelsea dominated both possession and shots in the game though, and we expect them to do so again with so much on the line. They have been playing great football since the return of the season, racking up a 5-0-1 record in all competitions including a 2-1 win over Manchester City. Back the Blues to continue their form here.
Manchester United vs Southampton
Old Traffod, Tuesday 5.00am (AEST)
Manchester United is arguably the form team in the competition at the moment, having won their last four games on the trot and going undefeated across their last 10. They have beated Brighton, Bournemouth and Aston Villa over the last three weeks with a combined goal aggregate of 11-2 and get another relatively easy opponent on Thursday morning in Southampton.
If they win against Southampton, Crystal Palace and West Ham over the next three weeks, it could set up a final day matchup with Leicester City which will decide who finishes in the top four. Southampton has been decent since the return of the season, winning three of their five games including a great win over Manchester City on Matchday 33.
Manchester United have not lost to Southampton in their last eight games dating all the way back to Jannuary of 2016. Can’t see that streak ending this week with the way the Red Devils are playing. Back them to win this one easily.
