Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, June 21st
Bendigo Race 1 - (Market)
(6) Energy Within was scratched from a much harder race in town yesterday and saved for this 2YO race that has no winners engaged. (6) Energy Within is a Hayes/Hayes/Dabernig trained filly that has placed at two of four starts, all of them this time in, you would imagine this may be her last run this prep. She placed at Ballarat on the big track two back on a heavy surface, she got back and finished of well. She then went to Swan Hill over the carnival and was well supported from double figures into $9.50 in the much harder Elvstroem Classic. She was last I the run and hit the line hard to place, she looks suited both getting out in trip and the big drop in class.
Bendigo Race 3 - (Market)
(1) American Whiskey is drawn out but is likely to get back anyway as he did at his debut. He was trialed last year in Sydney before going back to the paddock and coming south, that first start was at Wangaratta and he was very well supported to start a $2.90 favourite. He was worse than mid-field in the run before running on well in the straight. He layed in and looks like he has a lot to learn, there has been a subsequent winner come through that race also that was beaten a long way. This looks no harder and should appreciate the extra furlong and the open spaces here.
(1) American Whiskey
$2.35
Coonamble Race 7 - (Market)
The feature of the day is the Coonamble Cannonball, a handicap over 1100m where the speed should be on from the off. (9) Kookabaa looks beautifully drawn in the middle of the line with all the speed drawn outside him. He won back-to-back races at Mudgee and Dubbo, he was again at Dubbo last time when beaten in a similar race as an odds-on favourite. He had a good run in transit and loomed up to win but just found one better, with a big margin to third. (1) Burning Crown has the big weight but gets a 2kg claim, he over-raced badly when in town last start and am worried that if Hugh Bowman couldn’t control him, how is Yvette Lewis going to go? He will be up on the speed and hopefully Kookabaa has the cold sit.
Werribee Race 1 - (Market)
(3) Nasukawa looks well placed here at his third career start. He was backed as if there was no settling on debut at Geelong, from black odds into a SP of $1.50. He worked early but found the front, was headed inside the last furlong and stuck on well for second. He then went to an easier race at Donald and again started favourite, had a soft run behind the speed before looming early in the straight but just simply wasn’t good enough. He gets the gun draw, gets the blinkers on for the first time and should appreciate this level of maiden. He has the SP profile, this will be his last chance if he can’t win this! Bet again if he lands on the bunny, the blinkers should do the trick.
