Horse Racing Tips: Friday, June 5th
Wagga Race 1 - (Market)
(1) Another One is a locally trained gelding that debuted here five weeks ago. There was a little support for him from double figures in to a SP of $9.50. He was fairly away before settling mid-field on the rails, the jockey went for aa run that wasn’t there and the horse was turned sideways and lost all momentum. He balanced up again over the last 100m and drove hard to narrowly miss. He produced the best overall sectionals of the race and there is no doubt in my mind that he should have won. He draws well and going up in trip, I expect him to be ridden a lot closer, maybe even in front. They won’t run past him if so.
Donald Race 2 - (Market)
(7) Journalese is a first-starter for the Mick Price yard at Caulfield, the daughter of Written Tycoon has had three jump-outs to prepare for this, two at her first prep before resuming with one at Sandown just over two weeks ago. After jumping well, she cruised to the front and looked to never get out of second gear to win the jump-out In what was a good time for the day. The horse alongside looked to be under pressure a long way from home as she cruised to the line. A replay of that trial can be found here. She does have the 17 gate next to her name which looks a hurdle on paper, there are a few early scratching's so hopefully she will just show her good speed and land straight on the bunny!
Donald Race 3 - (Market)
(5) Nasukawa has had one start for the Hickmott yard, he debuted at Geelong on a good track three weeks ago. He opened up black figures but was very heavily backed deep into the red to have a SP of $1.50. He jumped well, worked over to lead with Willow on and was headed inside the furlong and stuck on well for second. The winner of that race The Driller came out last week at Geelong and went within a whicker of winning again at his first go out of maiden grade and the fourth horse came out and placed again at maiden grade at Ballarat last week. The form line through the race looks good and from the gate, should be able to lead again. I am wondering why we are getting close to 2/1 when he was so short on debut? He leads and wins.
Taree Race 3 - (Market)
(2) Dunoon obviously has had some issues, he had 7 official trials dating back to mid-November 2018 before making his debut at Taree 5-weeks ago. He had support at double figure odds, was slowly away and settled a mile back on the rails in the field of 12. He ran on hard and never really got a crack at them late producing the best last 800m of the race. That was on a soft track and he is likely to get a better surface here, out in trip and with a better getaway, should settle closer and be hard to hold out late.
