Horse Racing Tips: Wednesday, January 8th

January 7th 2020, 10:41pm, By: Luke Krahe

There are some great country and metro meets around Australia on Wednesday, the 8th of January. We have a preview and tips for some of our favourite races from Sandown, Warwick Farm, Rockhampton and Bunbury below!

Horse Racing Tips: Wednesday, January 8th

Sandown Race 4 (Market)

I like this race as a two-pronged attack, the first of which is to back (11) Lorenzetti to win. He is a very one-paced type that was caught out a little bit last start when they quickened, he balanced up though and kept grinding away and was good through the line. He gets out in trip which looks to be ideal and the speed should be genuine throughout, which he needs. You should be able to get each-way odds about him at some stage of the betting if that’s the way you like to bet. If laying is more your thing, I am very happy to take on (8) Reliabelle. This daughter of Reliable Man is lining up for her 20th start since having a spell. I know what you say about mares in form, and she is going well, but she surely has to be feeling it a little. She will get back from the draw and no doubt Willow will ride her “cute”, she looks a great lay at about the each-way quote.

(11) Lorenzetti

$4.40

Warwick Farm Race 6 (Market)

A huge field goes around here and the speed looks really good on paper, especially from those drawn wide on the track. I can see them doing too much work trying to get a position and set it up for one of the swoopers late. (15) Chat gets out to the 1300m at start three this prep, he hit the line hard over 1000m up the short straight at Wyong fresh and was clearly looking for further. Last time on the bigger track at Randwick out to 1100m, he was near last early before being held-up early in te straight and was only out late. He officially had the best last 800m of the race even though he wasn’t fully extended, he just missed the placings beaten under a length. From the good draw, Kathy O’Hara should be able to settle midfield and with the potentially hot speed up front, should be able to run into a place at least. There is better than $8 available at the time of writing, back him each-way.

(15) Chat E/W

$6.60

Rockhampton Race 1 (Market)

Obviously there are a few unknowns and the babies can improve a lot from start-to-start at this time of year, but I was really impressed with the recent trial of (1) Isis Brumby here at Rocky. The Kevin Miller trained son of Spill The Beans was having his second trial, he jumped well but was forced to sit three-wide on the speed for the first 300m until entering the straight. He was all over the shop but when the jock gave him a slap he extended, dropped down to the rail and the trial was all over. He had to be straightened a couple of times in the run home and the time was good without being added the question. The blinkers go on today and they weren’t on in the trial, that should help a little with the waywardness. He looks to be above average, he should be too fast for them. Another first starter (3) Russian Weapon also bolted in at the trials on the same day, he was asked for a lot more though and the time wasn’t as quick.

(2) Isis Brumby

$2.70

Bunbury Race 1 (Market)

(1) Money Matters was a winner on debut in town back in June when facing the breeze, he was then beaten as favourite in a harder race against the babies before going to the paddock. He resumed at Ascot in early December, was mid-field in the run before losing some momentum angling around runners and hit the line well. His latest start at Ascot he sat outside the speed in what was a better than average tempo up front, got past leader in the straight but just found one better that had the sweeter run in transit. Drawn beautifully in two and back to the 6 furlongs, he looks ideally placed. Hopefully he finds that spot on the speed and control the pace, if he can kick clear at the top of the straight, they won’t be running him down.
