A-League Round 13 Betting Tips
Melbourne City vs Western United
Friday, 7:30pm AEDT
Melbourne City were brave in defeat last time out against Sydney FC. Despite leading the possession and shot count, City were beaten 2-1 on the road in what might have been a Grand Final preview. City have now lost two on the spin, although they’re still sitting comfortably in second spot on the ladder.
Western United were poor last start when they lost at home against Wellington Phoenix. Interestingly, United have a far better record on the road than they do at home this season, picking up 10 points from five road fixtures compared to seven from seven at home. They come into this sitting in fourth spot on the table.
City may have lost back to back games coming into this, but they’re still highly deserving of favouritism. They were unlucky to lose to the champs last weekend and now that they’re back on their home deck where they’ve won 3/5 this season, we expect them to get the job done against their new rivals.
Wellington Phoenix vs Central Coast Mariners
Saturday, 5pm AEDT
Wellington Phoenix were impressive in their 3-1 road win over City last weekend. Phoenix are now putting together a really good stretch since they started the season with four losses on the spin. They’re now undefeated in their last seven league matches, winning four and drawing three to climb into the top six.
The Mariners were unable to make it back to back league wins when they lost to Perth Glory on New Year’s Eve. They were thoroughly outplayed by last year’s Grand Finalists, losing 3-0 and failing to create many meaningful attacks. Mariners are still enjoying a better campaign than last but come into this down in 10th spot on the ladder.
The Mariners have been more competitive this season than in past campaigns, however, Phoenix are in red hot form at the moment and should be far too good on their home deck. We expect them to continue their surge up the ladder with a comfortable win on Saturday night.

Sydney FC vs Adelaide United
Saturday, 7:30pm AEDT
Sydney FC weren’t at their dominant best last weekend against Melbourne City, but they still managed to come out of it with all three points thanks to a late winner from Kosta Barbarouses. That was Sydney’s ninth win from 11 games this season, which sees them well clear at the top of the table.
Adelaide United were disappointing losers at home to the struggling Wanderers last start. The Reds now find themselves in a bit of a form slump having lost each of their last two and three of their past four league games. Despite the slump, they come into this fixture sitting in fifth spot om the table.
Sydney are clearly the better of the two clubs in this fixture and being the home side will only improve their chances of claiming win #10 on the season. It’s hard to build a case for Adelaide winning this on current form, so we’ll take the champs to get the job done here.
