Race 2: Hygain Plate 1200m - 6.45pm AEDT
Michael Hickmott has rarely got it wrong recently when coming to Melbourne so with that in mind, I am in the corner of 5 Cash. He is on debut and he has looked to trial up really well for the debut, the latest piece of work being a trial win at Balaklava and moved well. Todd Pannell makes the trek over and finds a winnable race.
6 Fauci is a well-bred colt for Busuttin/Young that is on debut. He has jumped out well at Cranbourne for start one and we know the stable, especially with a colt, like to get them ready for a first up forward showing. Maps ideally and the depth, as a whole, isn't deep.
8 Belnera should appreciate firmer footing for Mick Kent. She found a bog when resuming at Pakenham over 1000m and tried hard but just lacked change up speed in the conditions. Maps well, fitter, firmer deck...one for exotics.
Race 6: Ranvet Handicap 1000m - 8.45pm AEDT
10 Split Decision is the each way bet for me. Matty Smith has this mare going really well at present, the latest run being over 955m here and I thought she was slaughtered by Hefel, getting held up at times before getting clear and finding the line well enough when third. Big jockey upgrade and maps perfect.
3 Wakanjeja is capable. This mare resumed over 1000m at The Valley where the scamper didn't suit her, as well as the tight track, so I want to be forgiving. Bigger track, fitter, more gentle tempo, she's dangerous for sure as a key winning prospect.
8 Geminga is an SA raider that should be around the mark. That was the case over 1050m at Morphettville last time when back off the speed before being presented clear air and found the line nicely in defeat behind Winning Revolution. Not a strong race this, so I say she's in with a shout.

Race 8: Edsa Group Handicap 1000m - 9.45pm AEDT
If the breaks go the way of 10 Inexorable, I think good luck beating him. He ran over 1500m here two weeks ago and he should have bolted in but just got badly held up in behind tired horses when bolting but only got clear when the race was over. Jockey upgrade and with clear air, I think he's too good. Keen.
5 Capulet is racing well for Team McEvoy and commands some level of respect off a fourth over 1500m at Morphettville when near the speed and tried hard but just couldn't quite finish the job. Tricky gate, but should press forward and run her usual honest race.
7 Jaz Tycoon comes back to the mile after racing over 2000m in the St Arnaud Cup last time out when outclassed on paper and was held late but he didn't disgrace himself in defeat I thought behind Pittsburgh Pirate. Not sure he wins but a first four threat.
