Rugby World Cup Final Betting Tips

England vs South Africa

Saturday, 8pm (AEDT) International Stadium Yokohoma

The Red and Whites will be aiming for their 2nd World Cup title and this will be their first appearance in the decider since losing to South Africa 15-6. So there’s even more motivation for England to win this one! It’s difficult to look past England for this final after a stunning performance over New Zealand in the Semis, arguably one of their greatest performances in a World Cup. They were super impressive defensively as they continuing forced the All Blacks into errors with the 19-7 result. The key was also starting well and a try in the 2nd minute calmed the nerves. They do have a few injury concerns after the win with Jonny May and Owen Farrell. May suffered a dead leg in the early stages of last week’s game and Farrell also had a leg complaint. Which saw him hand kicking duties to George Ford. Ultimately, the pair should be right to go and wouldn’t want to miss this finale.

For the Springboks, they beat Wales 19-16 in a scrappy but close Semifinal. It was a game dominated by penalties but South Africa won’t mind winning ugly if it means winning a World Cup. Similarly to England, their defensive line has been tough to crack in the Quarters and Semis so that’ll be the key for them lifting the trophy. Halfback Faf De Klerk will be the key in controlling possession for South Africa and he’s been impressive during this World Cup campaign. Handre Pollard scored 14 of 19 points in the Semifinals victory and his kicking will need to be accurate once again in an expected close encounter.

In the history of Rugby Union between England and South Africa, the Springboks hold a 25-15-2 advantage since 1906. They also hold a 3-1 record in World Cup matchups. However, England has turned the tables lately with a 12-11 win in Twickenham last November and a 25-10 victory in South Africa. Considering both of those games fell under 37.5 points, we really like the chances of another low scoring affair, especially with the Cup up for grabs. England’s win over NZ saw them total 26 points and they conceded a single try for the entire 80 minutes. South Africa’s last 2 games have also gone Under the total (29 & 37). There’s also the fact that the 2007 World Cup final totalled just 21 points with these two teams involved so this should be a similar type of game.
