It’s been a wild couple of weeks of tennis in New York City with the US Open tossing up some unexpected results. As it stands, there are just four men and four women left from what was once a combined field of 256. Serena Williams tops the big names left in the women’s draw, while Rafael Nadal is the lone ‘big 3’ member left in the men’s section.
Here, we take a look at all four semi-final matchups that will be taking place over the next couple of days. Check out best bets for each match below and good luck to everyone following!
US Open Semi-Final Betting Tips
Women’s Draw
Elina Svitolina vs Serena Williams (Friday 9am AEST)
The first of two women’s semi-finals will certainly attract the most interest as Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina takes on USA’s Serene Williams.
Svitolina is enjoying a breakout year in terms of performances at the majors. The current world #5 achieved her best ever result at a major when she reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon earlier this year. Svitolina has now backed it up with another semi-final appearance and will be looking to go one better.
Williams is no stranger to US Open semi-finals. She’s a 6x champion here and has won 23 majors overall. The superstar is trying to equal Margaret Court’s record 24 majors.
There was a bit of doubt surrounding Serena’s fitness heading into the tournament, but she’s looked in great form up until this point. She’s beaten Elina in three of their four career meetings and should be far too good if she plays something close to her best tennis.

Belinda Bencic vs Bianca Andreescu (Friday 10:30am AEST)
The second women’s semi-final features a matchup that no-one could have predicted. It’s Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic taking on Canada’s Bianca Andreescu.
Bencic is the current world #12 but has been as high as #7 in 2016 when she was just 18 years old. Prior to making the semi-finals this year, her best result at a major was making the quarterfinals at the US Open in 2014 when she was just 17.
Andreescu is currently ranked #15 in the world and is another promising young talent on the women’s Tour. She’s just 19 years of age and had never ventured beyond the second round of a major prior to this week.
Although she’s just 22 years old, Bencic has far more experience at this level than Andreescu. She’s already taken out the defending champion in Naomi Osaka and we believe she’s good enough to win this match and make it to her first US Open final.
Men’s Draw
Daniil Medvedev vs Grigor Dimitrov (Saturday)
Daniil Medvedev has had an incredible month or so and is in the box seat to make his first ever Grand Slam final. The #5 ranked men’s player in the world hails from Russia and is still just 23 years of age. He’s announced himself as the leader of the ‘next gen’ pack that is so desperately trying to win a major.
Grigor Dimitrov scored the win of his life when he defeated the great Roger Federer in the quarterfinals. It may have taken five sets and a bit of Federer back pain but beating the GOAT and making it to the semi-final of a major for the third time in his career is a great achievement.
Medvedev is by far the better form player of the two and will go into this clash as the favourite. Dimitrov has seemingly found some of his best tennis out of nowhere, considering he lost out seven from eight matches prior to the US Open. We still don’t trust him however and will be taking Medvedev to win this in comfortable fashion.

Rafael Nadal vs Matteo Berrettini (Saturday)
Rafael Nadal is the only member of the ‘big 3’ remaining in the US Open and is the odds-on favourite to take out the title. He’s had four easy victories and a walkover in the second round and should be as fresh as a daisy heading into his match on Saturday.
Calling Matteo Berrettini a surprise semi-finalist would be an understatement. Despite being ranked #25 in the world, the 23-year-old Italian had never won a match on a hard court at a Grand Slam until last week. Now, he finds himself coming up against one of the greatest players of all time on a huge stage.
It’s hard to find any value in this match considering how heavy of a favourite Nadal is at just $1.05. We’re not prepared to play any Berrettini markets here as we expect Rafa to put his foot down and get through this match as quickly as possible. If anything, we’ll be playing the unders on the total games.
