The fourth and final tennis Grand Slam tournament of the year is now upon us with the US Open kicking off early Tuesday morning (AEST). All the best men’s and women’s tennis players in the world will be heading to New York City in hope of being crowned champion in two weeks’ time.
Here, we’ll be focusing on the men’s side of the draw, but we’ll have our women’s betting tips for you on our site very shortly. Good luck to everyone following us!
Men’s US Open Betting Tips
Tournament Outright
We’ll kick off our betting tips with the most popular market, which is the tournament outright. We’ve gone three for three with this market at Grand Slams this year, so let’s see if we can tip the Golden Slam!
The favourite at just a touch over even odds is current world number one and current US Open champion Novak Djokovic. The Joker has been in some of the best form of his career in the past two years and has won four of the past five Grand Slams.
The only other two players at single-figure odds are this year’s French Open champion in Rafael Nadal at $4 and the recent Wimbledon runner-up in Roger Federer. Other than the usual big three, Daniil Medvedev at around $13 is the only player that’s been given any sort of a chance, which seems about fair enough.
For us, we just can’t go past Djokovic. He’s won the last three hard court Grand Slams and has Roger Federer’s record of 20 Grand Slams in his sights (currently has 16). The $2.25 odds may seem a bit short, but you’d be a brave man to bet against him on current form.
Quarter 2 Winner
Another market that we’re interested in is who will be the quarter two winner. For us, Roger Federer at nearly $2 is an absolute steal. He’s made it to the semi-finals or better in 10 of the last 14 times he’s competed and has won 11 hard court Grand Slams in his career, including five US Open titles. His draw is a relatively straight-forward one that will see his biggest test being a potential Round of 16 clash with David Goffin and a quarter-final meeting with Kei Nishikori. Should both of those matchups come about, we expect Federer to get the upper hand quite comfortably.
Quarter 3 Winner
The most open quarter at this year’s US Open is quarter number three. This quarter is the one without any of Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic, which gives someone outside of these players a great chance to make a deep run this fortnight. For us, we’ll be backing in Dominic Thiem to make the most of this opportunity. He’s the current world number four and is now a 2x Grand Slam runner-up (French Open 2018-19). He also made it to the quarterfinals of the US Open last year where he was beaten by Rafael Nadal in five close sets. Thiem has made it to at least the fourth round here in four of his five attempts and gets a great chance to make a semi-final run here this year.
Tournament H2H – Goffin vs Khachanov
One of the more interesting markets getting around is the tournament head-to-head. Here, you’re betting on which of the two players you believe will make it further in the tournament. One of these that we have our eye on is David Goffin vs Karen Khachanov. We mentioned above that Goffin will come up against Federer in the fourth round should he make it there, but him making it there is definitely no certainty. Goffin has only made it to the fourth round in two of his seven attempts and hasn’t been in the greatest form this season. On the other hand, Khachanov gets a relatively good draw up until the quarterfinals where he’ll see Rafael Nadal. Khachanov is one of the big improvers on Tour and is currently ranked #9 in the world. He’s just 23 years of age and made the quarterfinals in the French Open this year and he’s only getting better with more experience.
