2018-19 A-League: Week 27 Preview & Betting Tips

April 26th 2019, 2:21pm, By: Jake Smit

We had another great weekend with our A-League betting tips on match day 26. We missed on our first play on Sydney and Perth to draw at long odds but bounced back with Adelaide beating Melbourne Victory ($2.63) and Wellington beating City ($2.36). We now shift our focus to the final match day of the season and looking to finish off strong! Good luck to everyone following our tips.

A-League Match Day 27 Betting Tips

Melbourne City vs Central Coast Mariners (Friday 7:50pm AEST)

The first play of match day 27 comes from the fixture between Melbourne City and the Central Coast Mariners. Interestingly, the Mariners have gotten the better of City this season, defeating them once and drawing the other of their two encounters.

Melbourne City are coming off a disappointing 3-2 loss in Wellington last weekend. It was a loss that means City will (unless something drastic happens) finish in sixth position on the ladder and hit the road in week one of the finals. Despite most likely finishing in sixth, we do expect them to field a full-strength line-up to keep the pressure on Wellington.

The Mariners were able to bag their third win of the entire season last weekend against the also poor Wanderers. It’s been a bitterly disappointing season for the Mariners from start to finish and they’ll be keen to get this last game over and done with.

No surprise to see Melbourne City enter this game as the odds-on favourite to win. They’re by far the better team and will likely field their best line-up for this final fixture of the season. We see them winning this comfortably, covering their one goal handicap in the process.

Newcastle Jets vs Sydney FC (Saturday 5:35pm AEST)

Second up with our best bets we look at the fixture between Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC. Sydney won their most recent clash by a single goal, while their first meeting finished as a 1-1 draw.

The Jets absolutely annihilated Brisbane last weekend, defeating them 6-1 on the road. Five different players found their name on the scoresheet for Newcastle in what was easily their best performance of a disappointing season. They now return home for their last game of the season against one of the best teams in the competition in Sydney FC.

The Sky Blues claimed arguably their best win of the season last weekend against Perth Glory. In a battle of the two fancied title contenders it was Sydney who made a statement, coming out on top by one goal to nil. Sydney have now secured second spot on the ladder and can afford to get some rest into their top stars.

With Sydney now fixed in second spot, we expect them to field a team that includes a few of their usual bench players. On the other hand, the Jets are coming off a huge win and will look to go into the off-season on a high note. For these reasons, we have the Jets winning this at great odds.

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne Victory (Saturday 7:50pm AEST)

Our third and final play from the last round of the season comes from the fixture between the Western Sydney Wanderers and Melbourne Victory. Victory will be looking to complete the sweep over the Wanderers this season after defeating them 4-0 and 2-1 in their two meetings so far.

As mentioned above, the Wanderers fell to the Mariners by three goals to one on the road last weekend. They had plenty of chances to get on top early but simply couldn’t convert, which has been a common theme for them all season.

Melbourne Victory have had a busy schedule over the past month with plenty of league matches and Asian Champions League matches taking place in a short span. Their last league match was a 1-0 loss away to Adelaide United last weekend, which confirmed their third spot on the table.

Like the earlier game on Saturday, we expect Victory to field a fairly different line-up to what they usually go with. They’ve got virtually nothing to play for and have been busy with AFC duties over the past couple of weeks. All things considered; we like the look of the Wanderers at home at juicy odds.
