We had a good week with our tennis tips, finding a winner in the form of Stefanos Tsitsipas ($6) at the Open 13 tournament in Marseille. We now shift our focus to this weekends 2019 ATP World Tour, where there are two ATP 500 tournaments set to play out. As always, good luck to everyone following our betting tips!
ATP Betting Tips
Dubai (U.A.E)
The first of two ATP 500 events that we’re looking at this week is the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, which takes place on outdoor hardcouts in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It was first held in 1993 and was upgraded from an ATP 250 to a 500 in 2001. Roger Federer has won the tournament a record seven times (spanning 2003-15), while his rival Novak Djokovic has won it four times (2009-13). The current champion is Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut.
Top Seeds
1 Kei Nishikori (Japan) – WR 6
2 Roger Federer (Switzerland) – WR 7
3 Marin Cilic (Croatia) – WR 10
4 Karen Khachanov (Russia) – WR 11
5 Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) – WR 12
6 Borna Coric (Croatia) – WR 13
7 Milos Raonic (Canada) – WR 14
8 Daniil Medvedev (Russia) – WR 15
There’s no shortage of stars here with eight of the world’s top 15 players drawn to play. Of that group, we like the draw of 7x champion and arguably the greatest to ever lace them up in Roger Federer. He may be playing just his second tournament of the year, but he says he’s in good shape and who are we to doubt him. The only worry here is the short odds ($3), which we feel us unders at the tender age of 37. If you’re chasing a bit more value, then we really like the price of Milos Raonic ($10). He’s had a decent campaign so far and is drawn in a very favourable position in the bottom half of the draw. He’ll likely meet Roger in the third round, meaning you could have some each way to guarantee a deep run. Gun to head we go with Federer, but happy to sprinkle some on Raonic, too.
Acapulco (Mexico)
The other ATP 500 event on this week is the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC, which is played on outdoor hardcourts in Acapulco, Mexico. Also known as the Mexican Open, this prestigious tournament has been held annually since 1993 and switched from outdoor red clay courts to hardcourts in 2014. Thomas Muster won the first four years it was held (1993-96), which is a record that was matched by David Ferrer after he won four titles (2010-2015). The most recent winner is Argentinian hard-hitter Juan Martin del Potro.
1 Rafael Nadal (Spain) - WR 2
2 Alexander Zverev (Germany) – WR 3
3 John Isner (USA) – WR 9
4 Diego Schwartzman (Argentina) – WR 19
5 Alex de Minaur (Australia) – WR 27
6 France Tiafoe (USA) – WR 29
7 Steve Johnson (USA) – WR 34
8 John Millman (Australia) – WR 37
There’s an extremely top heavy draw at the Mexican Open this year with two stand out chances in Rafael Nadal ($2.88) in the top half and Alexander Zverev ($3.75) in the bottom half. In our view, Nadal couldn’t ask for a better draw with John Isner, Steve Johnson, and John Millman the seeds standing in his way to the final. All three challenges find themselves in form that is far from their best, too, which is why we’re putting Nadal as our top chance for the title.
