The 2019 PGA Tour rolls on this weekend as we head to the famous Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California for the AT&T Pro-Am. We take a look at the event, getting underway Thursday, the 7th of February and give our betting tips below.
AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Betting Tips
Course
One of the most famous and widely regarded as one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world, Pebble Beach Golf Course will host its namesake tournament as it has done every season since 1947 along with a rotation with two other courses in the area. This year, the other two courses will be Spyglass Hill, which has played host to the tournament on 51 occasions and Monterey Peninsula Course, which has hosted 12 times.
Because the AT&T Open is a Pro-Am tournament, pro players will be paired with celebrities and rotate through the three courses in the first three rounds of play. The cut will then be made after Round 3 and the remaining players will battle it out at Pebble Beach for the title.
At just 6,816 yards playing as a Par 72, Pebble Beach is the shortest course on the PGA Tour and with fairly wide fairways, it doesn’t pose a massive threat off the tee to professional golfers. However, the real test at Pebble Beach is the approach. The greens are trickily placed and extremely small, so strong approach players will be our target this weekend.
Field
16 of the top 30 ranked players in the world are expected to suit up at Pebble Beach this Thursday. Ted Potter Jr won the tournament last season and will be back to defend his title this year while other winners at Pebble Beach who will be playing this weekend include Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Brandt Snedeker, Peter Jacobsen and Vaughn Taylor.
A host of top ranked players will join the former winners including Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Rory McIlroy, Bubba Watson, Adam Scott, Matt Kuchar, Tony Finau, Patrick Cantlay, Patrick Reed and Tommy Fleetwood.
On the lighter side, the tournament features a star-studded list of celebrities competing this season. NFL stars Tony Romo, Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers and Larry Fitzgerald will all be suiting up this weekend as well as Ray Romano, Kelly Slater, Larry the Cable Guy, Greg Kinnear and Andy Garcia.
Tips
When talking about iron and approach play, one guy springs to mind right away and that’s Aussie Adam Scott. We jumped on Scott last weekend to win the Farmers Insurance Open at $67 and we just missed a big pay day as the former Masters champion finished in 2nd place by just two shots.
Scott finished in the top ten in all of the major approach categories on the PGA Tour last season. He was 8th overall in shots gained on approach and 8th in greens in regulation and has started the 2019 PGA Tour season in hot form. Scott has already racked up a 10th place finish at the CJ Cup and a T18 finish at the WGC-HSBC before his second place at the Farmers.
Scott is great value again this weekend and the Pebble Beach Course should suit his style of play. At $34 to win and $4.33 for a top 10 finish, jump on.
