Day 2 of The Championships brings another huge day of racing from Royal Randwick in Sydney with the Sydney Cup and Queen Elizabeth Stakes among the feature races of the day. Conditions are expected to be fine but again the track will be slow/heavy which will suit the mud larks once again.
Queen Elizabeth Stakes – Saturday Randwick Race 8
With $4 million on offer, the Queen Elizabeth is the richest race of The Championships and has attracted a fantastic field.
Early betting has seen Carlton House installed as the favourite, which does seem fitting with Carlton House owned by the Queen herself. Carlton House should have no problems taking the lead here and will be hard to run down, but we expect Silent Acheiver to take a sit in behind and be too strong down the straight. Silent Achiever is in hot form and will enjoy the choppy conditions.
It’s A Dundeel is certainly a threat and has been geared towards this race after underwhelming performances this campaign. The money has come for IAD during the week. If the conditions get heavy watch out for Sacred Falls and Royal Descent. Both were huge last week, and although it will be tough backing up again, they’ll be best suited if the track is again heavy. If the track dries then Boban offers some value after being scratched in the heavy last week.
Verdict: Really tough race, which will be fantastic to watch. Carlton House will be tough to pass, but happy to go with Silent Achiever who has done nothing wrong to suggest our money should be going elsewhere. Look to Sacred Falls and Royal Descent if you want some more value in heavy goings.
