Quiet day of NHL action coming up this Wednesday, the 22nd of November with just three games on the slate in the lead up to a monster Thanksgiving slate in the coming days. We preview all three games on the card and give our betting tips below.
Edmonton Oilers at St Louis Blues (12.00pm AEDT Fox Sports 503 HD)
After a two day break the Oilers head to St Louis to try and break their two game losing streak. Both teams met less than a week ago with the Blues getting the 4-1 win in Edmonton. The Oilers have now lost six of their last ten and have given up ten goals in the two recent losses and have only managed to net four of their own. When a team is down fans, etc look at what the captain has achieved. Last year Connor McDavid put up 100 point season and at the quarter mark of this season he is leading the team with 25 points, I would clearly say he is doing his job. On the road the Oilers are 3-4-2 and bring number one goalie Cam Talbot in for this game with a 7-10-1 record. The Oilers have won four of the last five over the Blues will we see them continue this trend?
St Louis are still hot and are clearly leading the Central Division with a 15-5-1 record. The Blues have won the previous two games with victories over the Oilers and managed to scrape over the line against the Canucks in Vancouver. The Blues are strong at home this season and are riding a 7-2-0 record and should get back defenseman Jay Bouwmeester for this one after he has successfully recovered from a fractured ankle. It's hard to see the Blues losing this one but with the Oilers claiming the previous four of the past five games anything might happen!

Vancouver Canucks at Philadelphia Flyers (11.00am AEDT)
The Canucks head to the East Coast to take on the Flyers at Wells Fargo Centre in Philly. The Canucks match up quite well against Philly and have been terrific on the road this season. Vancouver aren't expected to cause much noise this year but so far they seem to be heading in the right direction and have matched the top teams this season. They have dropped the last two but managed to beat L.A early in the week and their most recent game they lost to the Blues in OT. The talent is there and they are certainly no walk over.
With so much hype surrounding the Eagles and 76ers, it's hard to hear positive news involving the Flyers. Bottom line is that they need a win! Lost the last four and are 3-3-4 in the last ten, I guess the upside is at least they are gaining a point with four of those losses coming in OT. Philly had an explosive start to the season but now find themselves eighth in the Metropolitan Division. The defense is fairly solid for Philly ranked tenth for goals allowed but they need some help on their penalty kill, ranked 24th for power play percentage. They will also need to replace defenseman Radko Gudas who is suspended for ten games for slashing.

Montreal Canadiens at Dallas Stars (12.30 pm AEDT)
The struggling Canadiens head into Texas hoping to come out alive. Montreal have dropped the last three including a loss to bottom feeders Arizona then losing 6-0 to local rivals Toronto. Montreal are ranked 30th in scoring goals this season which doesn't help, unless your goalie is superman. Montreal are trying to stay afloat considering they have suffered numerous injuries to top players including a lower body injury to number one goalie Carey Price. One positive is that they are ranked first for shots on goal. But at the other spectrum they are ranked 30th for goals against.
Dallas put up six goals on 21 shots to get the win over the Oilers on Sunday. The Stars are a powerhouse at home so far this season with seven wins and two losses, cannot say the same for on the road but at home they are solid. Despite this impressive win streak at home they are still ranked sixth in the Central Division and need a lift on the road. Last time these two teams met, the Canadiens won 4-1. Can they do the same on the road this time round?
