The 2017 Moto GP season continues this weekend with the Aragon Motorcycle Grand Prix to make its 8th appearance on the Moto GP calendar. Held at the Ciudad del Motor de Aragon track in Alcaniz, Spain, the race is one of the favourites for the Spanish riders, with Aussie Casey Stoner being the only non-Spanish rider to win the event in its seven year history.
Current joint championship standings leader, Marc Marquez, has won the race twice and is favourite going into the event. Marquez won the San Marino GP a few weeks ago in dominant fashion and looks to be returning to the form that saw him take out last year’s championship.
Marquez sits exactly level with Italian Andrea Dovizioso on points, with the Ducati rider finishing third in San Marino to relinquish his lead.
With the pedigree on the Aragorn track, you have to give the slight edge to Marquez here. Jorge Lorenzo is another two time champion here but is having a woeful year over on Ducati and looks to be completely out of the running. The track isn’t suited to the high speeds of the Ducati’s so we like Marquez to win this one over Dovizioso and gain a small lead before some more Ducati friendly tracks come into play for the last four races of the season.

Jorge Lorenzo holds the track record with a time he raced back when he was on Yamaha, which has us believing that the track could suit the boys in blue. Valentino Rossi has looked rusty on the bike since breaking his leg a few weeks ago so the responsibilities on the Yamaha’s fall to Maverick Vinales. His Spanish heritage only strengthens his case here. Should go close.
