Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal turned the clock and rolled back the years for Tennis fans in 2017. The first three Slams were captured by the duo and they will each be looking to continue their form at the 2017 US Open starting from Monday, August 28.
Some big names are missing in action, which won't hurt their chances. Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka and Milos Raonic are all taking a break due to injuries, while Andy Murray joined them on the side-lines as a late out. This looks one of the most open draws for the US Open in a long time.
We look ahead to the Men’s draw of the final Slam of the year with our 2017 US Open Men's Preview and Betting Tips. You can check out our US Open Women's betting preview here.
Nadal comes to the tournament on the back of reclaiming the world number one position. However, he has lost before the semi-finals at three straight events throwing a question mark over his preparation. Tomas Berdych in the fourth round could be his first hurdle which also has Federer and some promising youngsters.
Federer is the man-of-the-year for many, but the draw hasn’t been kind to him. The 36-year-old has tough cookies in Feliciano Lopez, Nick Kyrgios and Dominic Thiem waiting to dump him before the quarters. Then, of course, there is Nadal lurking in the semis. Overall, it looks a rocky ride for the Swiss maestro.
Murray’s withdrawal opens the draw for Alexander Zverev who has been brilliant on the tour - sans the Grand Slams. He has won five tournaments this year, but is yet to reach the quarterfinal in a Slam. However, with an easy draw on offer, the German could look to make the most of the misfortune of others.
Among others, the young names that stand out are Grigor Dimitrov and Thiem. Dimitrov looked very impressive winning the title in Cincinnati and could take advantage of Nadal’s faltering form. Thiem too is looking strong and should be hoping to take advantage of Federer’s tough draw.
For the Aussies, all eyes would be on Kyrgios who can go reach the semis if he keeps his composure. Federer and Thiem are in the same half, while Sam Querrey looms as a third-round opponent. But as we all know with Kyrgios, it is a battle of his mind that he needs to master first.
2017 US Open Men's Betting Tips
Federer is the darling of betting market even if the draw is very tough on him. Odds of $2.75 on him becoming the champ is looking very risky considering the array of stars he has to overcome.
Nadal’s win is offered at handier odds of $4.33 and if the Spaniard can overcome the recent slump, he would be a great pick for the title.
However, we like the look of Zverev’s title chances where you can find odds of $6. The German could be your surprise package, while at the very least, getting $2.37 for him to make the final looks lucrative enough.
Tip: Zverev to reach the 2017 US Open Final - $2.37 at CrownBet
