Flemington will host Group 1 Australian Guineas Day on Saturday as the Blamey Stakes also headline Autumn's first day of racing for 2025. Angel Capital is the likely favourite in the Guineas and Steparty is the current top rater in the Blamey. The weather is fine and the track will remain Good with the first of the day starting at 12:15pm (AEDT). We had a good Saturday on the punt for followers last week and hopefully that backs up again. My three best bets are below!

Flemington Racing Tips: Saturday, March 1st 2025
Race 3: VOBIS Gold Comet - 1:20pm (AEDT)
(4) Band Of Brothers for Dean Sutton and Damien Lane looks hard to beat here after he ran a very good 3rd at Lakeside two starts back. After that he ran last at Flemington but forget that run as he was luckless. The fact that Lane is sticking with him and he has dropped 1.5kg is key here I think. Lane must have suggested the drop back in distance to 1000m I think and Band of Brothers has won and placed in Group and Listed races before.
(2) Midwest may lead this field and he does go very well over 1000m. It’s very hard to lead all of the way up the straight though.
(7) She’s Got Pizzaz is resuming from a spell and if fully fit is probably the best horse in the race. Probably wants closer to a mile though in a few weeks’ time.
(4) Band Of Brothers E/W
$5.50/$1.80 (1U/2U)
Race 7: TAB Blamey Stakes Group 2 - 3:40pm (AEDT)
(10) Place Du Carrousel has drawn well in barrier 2 and when she came over to Australia last year he did come with big credentials. In saying that he didn’t do too much but when looking at this race, he does look like the best horse in it at his best. She is first up here and has trialed up well. First time over the distance and at the odds she is worth and each-way play.
(11) Marble Arch will be running on hard in this but I think he will run into the placings rather than win. He stormed home last start when 8th at the 300m (2nd) and he did win at this track before that. Long straight suits.
(7) Steparty has been very consistent this prep and is favourite. He hasn’t won in a year and a half and he hasn’t won over this distance. Has won two races at Flemington though.
(10) Place Du Carrousel E/W
$8.00/$2.50 (1 Unit)
Race 8: Howden Australian Guineas GROUP 1 - 4:15pm (AEDT)
(7) Point And Shoot was last on the home turn at Randwick last start but still won by 2L in what was an excellent effort. The long Flemington straight is key here because he will again be warming up from the 400m and running on. Bjorn Baker’s stable has had an excellent 12 months and Lane takes the ride. A Good track is ideal.
(4) Angel Capital has some gears in his engine and has a good sprint on him over the final 200m. If he is smothered up and gets out late he can win again. A Good track suits and he looked very good when winning at Caulfield last start in preparation for this.
(3) Feroce was solid at this track last start when 3rd and the extra 200m with a change to a Dry track suits. Billy Egan knows him and rides again.
(7) Point And Shoot E/W
$5.50/$2.00 (1 Unit)
