Sunday's nine-race card at Flemington hosts the third day of Group 1 racing this weekend with the running of the Turnbull Stakes.
In addition to the Group 1, we have four Listed races, one Group 3 race and three Group 2's.
The track is currently rated a Good 4 but with a fair amount of rain predicted throughout the day we are likely to see that downgraded at some stage.
We have betting tips for all nine races on the Flemington program, as well as a full preview of the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes!
Flemington Racing Tips - Sunday October 2nd 2016
Race 1 - Madeenaty
Race 2 - Inside Agent / Outback Rain EW
Race 3 - Rocketeer
Race 4 - Under The Louvre
Race 5 - Aloft
Race 6 - Exocet
Race 7 - Hartnell
Race 8 - Manageress EW
Race 9 - Ulmann
Best Bet: Race 6 Exocet
Produced a huge win last start where she stormed home and put the race to bed in a matter of strides. Looks a very talented filly, should handle the step up to 1600m and handles the wet. Good price around $4.80.
Best Value Bet: Race 5 Aloft
Not the greatest value but I think $5.50 is still a good price for this horse having his second start in Australia. First up he was good over 2000m and he is set to improve sharply over 2500m. Other value bets throughout the day are Manageress in Race 8, and The United States and Preferment in Race 7.
Yellowglen Turnbull Stakes 2000m
PREFERMENT: Hasn't fired a shot in two runs so far this prep but has never finished outside the top 2 when third up from a spell and is a dual Group 1 winner over this track and distance. Big price.
TARZINO: Hasn't shown much so far this prep. Step up in distance will help once again but needs to improve on what we've seen so far this time in.
HAPPY TRAILS: Decent run first up but tends to need a few runs before he finds his best so prepared to let him go around here.
HARTNELL: Looks to have come back a different animal this time in and has won by the length of the straight at both his last starts. Has failed before in Melbourne so that is a very slight query but if he reproduces what we've seen this prep he wins.
THE UNITED STATES: I think he shapes as a big chance in this and if Hartnell isn't at his best then this might be your winner. Good first up and has never finished outside the top two when 2nd up and has finished in the top 2 at four of his five starts over 2000m. Big chance.
OUR IVANHOWE: Fair first up and should improve here up in distance. Will appreciate the rain that's coming and was a Group 1 winner over this trip last prep. Each way chance.
SET SQUARE: Good last start despite a tough run and her run previous to that was good too. Capable of running a big race but will need luck from the wide barrier.
TALLY: Good last start way down in grade but steps back up in grade here so will need to improve to feature in the finish. Suited by the step up in distance and was a Group 2 winner over Palentino over this distance last prep.
JAMEKA: Huge win last start over this distance in Group 3 company which backed up her good showing first up. Looks to have come back in very good shape and from the good draw she looks set to run another big race.
SOFIA ROSA: Hasn't shown much in her first two starts since winning the Group 1 Australian Oaks in the Autumn. Up to 2000m helps and she has won 2 from 3 when third up from a spell. Any rain helps and she can improve on what we've seen this prep.
DE LITTLE ENGINE: Is on a Melbourne Cup path and isn't good enough over 2000m in this grade.
SECOND BULLET: Ok first up but poor last start. Has a fantastic record over this track and distance having never missed a place, and does improve 3rd up traditionally. Expect him to go forward, needs to improve.
RAW IMPULSE: Delivered a huge win in Adelaide last start on a wet track. Has never finished outside the top 2 over 2000m but this is a huge step up in grade and needs to improve again - but he is capable of doing so.
