2016 PGA: Wyndham Championship
Where: Sedgefield Country Club, Greensboro, North Carolina
When: Thursday 18th August (10:00pm first tee)
Purse: $5,600,000
All the excitement of the Olympic golf tournament has been and passed. Every player’s attention now turns towards the FedEx Cup playoffs. Following this week’s event, the top 125 ranked players in the FedEx Cup standings will earn a tee time at The Barclays.
The Playoffs (which includes The Barclays, Deutsche Bank, BMW Championship & the Tour Championship) then features a progressive cut, with 100 players qualifying for the Deutsche Bank Championship, 70 for the BMW Championship and finally just 30 players will qualify for the Tour Championship.
This week’s Wyndham Championship is the last chance players will get (outside of the top 125) to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs. Although this tournament is lacking some of the world’s top players it is usually a very drama filled four days of golf. Every shot and putt is very important for the lower ranked players desperately trying to extend their season.
Don’t be surprised to see players with a putt on the final day to make the playoffs.
The Playoffs is worth an extra 34 million dollars over the four events.
Here are my betting selections for the 2016 Wyndham Championship.
Justin Thomas
This guy is having a great season of golf with over $3.5 million in earnings. He currently sits in 9th place in FedEx Cup standings. He opened with three solid rounds here last year (67,68 & 66) but faulted on the final day. He will be keen to make amends.
Tip: Justin Thomas to win outright - $34 at CrownBet
William McGirt
Is having a very productive season. A win at the Memorial tournament back in June catapulted him into the Top 20 in FedEx cup standings. A win (or top 3) finish this week would secure a spot in the Tour Championship. Last year McGirt opened with a 62 and finished in a tie for 14th, the year before that he finished T8th. This course suits his game.
Tip: William McGirt to win outright - $41 at CrownBet
Scott Brown
Will be looking to go two better than last year where he finished in a T3rd. Last week he opened with back to back 66’s in the John Deere Classic to finish in 16th place. Nice value this week.
Tip: Scott Brown to win outright - $81 at CrownBet
Morgan Hoffman
This is one of the guys who currently sits outside the top 125 (131st) and needs to finish in the top 30 this week in order to qualify for the playoffs. Hoffman finished T26th here last year and he played very good golf last week at the John Deere finishing in 3rd place.
Tip: Morgan Hoffman to win outright – $101 at CrownBet
